Last Friday, June 12, Sony held a Livestream event to showcase the upcoming PlayStation 5. In many ways, the event was the kind of show that gamers have wanted from E3 press conferences for years. There were no weird theatrics, just game trailer after game trailer broken up by short introductory presentations by Sony executives and Game Developers. Twenty-one titles - some completely new and some previously announced - were showcased at the presentation and the actual color and shape of the new console was revealed....

Although PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has watched its player base slowly decline after peaking in January of last year, recent data insights suggest that players may be coming back to the battle royale game. According to Steamcharts - a site dedicated to the ongoing analysis of concurrent players on Valve’s Steam platform - PUBG player counts were on the rise in December 2018; a trend that has continued into the early days of 2019....

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is a constantly evolving experience, with the team making a number of changes to the game based on fan feedback. One feature fans have been wanting for months is the ability to choose their own maps, and now PUBG Corp is finally adding map selection to the test servers, with plans to roll it out to the actual game soon. The decision to add map selection to PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds comes after fan complaints about the Miramar desert map....

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds players on Xbox One will likely have noticed a sizable update that was released for the game yesterday, and may be wondering exactly what that update does. Among other things, the update removes the original starting area, instead putting players in a variety of pre-match lobbies in order to improve the game’s performance. Samsung has unveiled the Galaxy S23 family of devices and as expected, there’s the S23, S23+ and the top-of-the-line Galaxy S23 Ultra. But the hardware powering these devices is different to the arrangement in previous years. For many years, Samsung has split the hardware in the Galaxy S models, using Qualcomm’s Snapdragon hardware in some parts of the world and its own Exynos hardware in other areas. That’s lead to no end of controversy from fans who typically all want Snapdragon, but haven’t been able to get it in Europe or India, for example....

Ubisoft has announced that it’s scrapping Rainbow Six Siege’s Season Two this year in an effort to provide better balance to the game. In place of the second season, which was supposed to be set in Hong Kong, Ubisoft will be deploying strategic change called Operation Health for Rainbow Six Siege, which will focus on improving the shooter, fixing bugs, and enhancing the game’s technology. The announcement comes by way of the Ubisoft blog, where the company revealed its “Three Pillars” that will “serve as focus points” for the development team....

The overpowered Shaggy meme has really taken on a life of its own, with a petition to add Shaggy to Mortal Kombat 11 garnering hundreds of thousands of signatures and a response from game director Ed Boon. The Shaggy meme has started to make an appearance in other video games as well, with fans creating the popular cartoon character in Red Dead Redemption 2’s Red Dead Online mode. Reddit user dorkstork0216 posted an image of a player-created Shaggy riding on a wagon, supposedly the 1898 version of the Mystery Machine....

In an open world multiplayer game like Red Dead Redemption 2’s Red Dead Online, griefing is a major issue. Rockstar Games has managed to tone down griefing in Grand Theft Auto 5 through the popular “passive mode” feature, but at the time of writing, Red Dead Online has no such option. And while a full-blown passive mode is still not confirmed for Red Dead Online, a future update will add a feature that is somewhat similar and should alleviate some frustration....
