I will be one of the first people to say that I adore open world games. Skyrim, Breath of the Wild, and The Witcher 3 are just some of my favorites. To be able to fully immerse yourself in a brand-new environment that’s filled with mystical locations, engaging lore, and interesting world events is one of the greatest experiences gaming has to offer. That being said, it seems that there’s been a bit of a push to make as many games as possible open world, and that needs to stop....

Persona 5 is & of the most stylish and entertaining games to ever come out on the PlayStation 4. Already one of the best RPGs in the genre, Persona 5 Royal somehow managed to improve upon a near-perfect formula and turn it into one of the greatest games ever released. Mementos is one of the most interesting areas in Persona 5– a randomly-generated dungeon that people who’ve played through Persona 3 and 4 will be quite familiar with....

As the major arcana go, the Hermit’s significance is fairly easy to grasp. Traditionally depicted as a man with a lantern and walking stick in a remote location, such as the top of a hill, or a cave, the Hermit represents hidden insight, introspection, and solitude. In Persona 5, the Hermit’s confidant, is none other than Futaba Sakura, who eventually serves as the Phantom Thieves’ navigator. When players first meet Futaba, she is a borderline hikikomori, which is a Japanese term referring to people—particularly youth—with extreme reclusive or agoraphobic tendencies....

Earlier this week, Atlus USA let it be known that there would be harsh penalties for any YouTubers or streamers who spoiled Persona 5 past a certain point, with the publisher even threatening to issue copyright takedown notices against specific accounts. That news has not gone over well with many in the JRPG’s community, and now, another game publisher is having a bit of fun at Atlus’s expense. Devolver Digital, the publisher of games like Hotline Miami and The Talos Principle, decided to joke around about Atlus’ streaming guidelines....

SEGA has revealed its upcoming title, Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis, through a trailer played during today’s Xbox Games Showcase. The action-packed fantasy MMORPG is slated for a global 2021 release on the Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and PC, with PS4 and Switch versions planned for (at least) Japan. Phantasy Star Online 2 made it to Western Xbox One/PC systems just this April/May, but Japanese gamers have been enjoying the unique RPG since 2012....

Frontier’s Planet Coaster Console offers you a brand new way to play Planet Coaster. It brings together everything that’s so great about the PC version and then adds and adjusts it to make it work for console gamers. There’s a new controller friendly interface and menu, as well as a brand new tutorial. You’ll also notice some levels that were later additions to the PC version, as well as the Frontier Workshop, the studio’s very own system for sharing and downloading player creations....

Aerith usually gets all the attention in Final Fantasy VII, what with her having an emotional death scene and all (spoiler alert), but Tifa is the real badass of the group. Not only is she an entrepreneur with her own bar, but she’s also the heart of AVALANCHE, an eco-terrorist group bent on freeing the world from its dependence on Mako....

Although the overall design of a Pokémon goes a long way in making it stand out from the crowd, particularly when each generation tends to see some repeated design elements such as Pikachu clones, regional birds, and regional rodents, a Pokémon’s typing is what truly makes it unique. With 18 different types and a maximum of two types per Pokémon, this leaves a lot of room for unique type combinations that are only seen on a handful of creatures....

Pokémon Home landed on Nintendo Switch and mobile last month and its users are still discovering some of the things it can do. While Home is not technically a game, it does offer its users rewards for completing certain tasks and hitting certain milestones. Spritzee and Swirlix are both Pokemon from the Kalos region and are some of the newest ‘mons to arrive in Pokemon GO. These two are both Fairy-types that evolve once with the use of a special method in the main series games. In the main series, both Spritzee and Swirlix evolve when traded holding a special item. The first wave of Pokemon GO’s Gen 4 release is less than 24 hours old and players are still discovering exactly what is currently available from the Sinnoh region. In addition to at least 20 confirmed Pokemon, it seems there is also at least one shiny family that can already be acquired. The Sinnoh region’s popular Shinx Pokemon family was suspected to be an early shiny appearance after the sprites were uncovered yesterday and now users on Reddit are sharing screenshot confirmation of encounters with the special spawn in Pokemon GO....

Pokemon GO players are no strangers to microtransactions.
