Although Pokémon is a role-playing game, it has never really stuck to the usual gameplay tropes associated with the genre. In particular, the series suffers somewhat due to the lack of side content outside of completing the Pokédex, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t any side content, it is just usually not openly given to the player so freely. From Gold & Silver onwards, Game Freak has slowly but surely started to embrace side quests in Pokémon games, with Sword & Shield having a great deal of side content that is fairly easy to find, particularly in The Isle of Armor and The Crown Tundra DLC....

It’s a sad fact of the Pokémon world that most critters just don’t get a chance to shine. If you’re a competitive player, you’ll have resigned yourself to two things: infuriating RNG is just a part of the game, and you’ll usually have to leave your favorites aside and pick the very best Pokémon for each team role. You may love Bug-types for instance, but sooner or later a Gigantamax Charizard is going to come along and burn your six bug buddies into sad little hunks of friend defeat and shattered dreams....

The Ghost/Grass-type Pokémon, Dhelmise, is a rare spawn in Pokémon Sword and Shield. It’s not obtainable in the wild until players are nearing the end game around Spikemuth, but specific Max Raid dens in the Wild Area boast a small chance of hosting a Dhelmise raid as well. Dhelmise has a 1% spawn rate in the wild, and the chance of a Dhelmise raid cropping up isn’t much better. 1% feels like a weirdly low likelihood, given it isn’t an outstanding Pokémon by any means....

The big Gen 4 update is here, but Pokemon GO players are still working out exactly what that means. Niantic announced that Gen 4 is rolling out in waves, so the community is currently crowdsourcing information to figure out everything that is included in this first wave. I’m pretty sure we all probably remember the original story of Pokemon Red & Blue. The Johto region was hit pretty hard by the Dexit cuts, with only a small handful of its Pokémon making it into Sword & Shield.
