Beginning in 2019 and lasting into early this year, a series of bushfires across Australia, focused heavily in the state of New South Wales, did unprecedented damage to the many parts of the country and some of its surrounding areas. While the crisis received some media attention as it was happening, discussion of the continuing effects of the bushfires after they were quelled has been almost entirely nil, at least outside of Australia (of course, one contributing factor is the worldwide crisis that has dominated the media since then)....

Remakes and remasters sound similar, but there is a subtle shade in meaning. While remasters are usually resolution increases or video games with a fresh coat of paint, remakes strive to retool gameplay with added features. Whether it’s a remake or remaster, there is a large margin for error, especially when attempting to reintroduce one of our favorite games. Remakes are typically more effective than remasters, but evidently, this is not always the case....

Despite a number of deserving criticisms, Remedy Entertainment’s Xbox 360 exclusive Alan Wake was a highlight, for many story-loving gamers, in the last console generation. However, during Microsoft’s conference at the 2013 E3 Expo, Remedy revealed that their next game is actually an all new cross-medium project titled Quantum Break - an experience that will exist both as a live-action TV series and a blockbuster game IP on Xbox One....

In the grand scheme of things, the PlayStation 4 is only in its early infancy. Sony’s current-gen console only just launched in November of 2013, and while sales are still extremely strong, the company knows that early success doesn’t a landmark home entertainment platform make. Thanks to Arduboy Incorporated, Tetris fans will soon be able to play an extremely tiny version of their favorite puzzle game on the Tetris MicroCard. Kevin Bates, creator of the miniature console known as the Arduboy, is expanding his small-scale gaming operation and releasing a business card-sized Tetris player going by the moniker the Tetris MicroCard. Releasing next year, the teensy custom-designed product is set to play an officially licensed version of the famous tetromino-stacking game....

After much hype and more than a little confusion, we finally know the PlayStation 5’s release date and price. Your favorite PlayStation came might be getting the Hollywood treatment soon. Speaking at CES 2021, PlayStation boss Jim Ryan revealed that the upcoming film adaptation of Uncharted and HBO’s The Last of Us series are “just the beginning” of what Sony has planned for their most popular IPs. Here’s what Ryan said: The upcoming Uncharted movie features Tom Holland as Nathan Drake and Mark Whalberg as Sully. Principal photography began last summer and wrapped on October 30....

Well, it looks as though Sony is finally going to lift the lid on the sweet, sweet tech that PS5 has under that glossy shell. Or will it? Maybe someone over on Twitter got a little overexcited again. Now, in these uncertain times, it can be hard to know who to trust. The media has a way of taking a molehill and making several dozen Chrysler Buildings stacked on top of each other out of it....

There’s no denying that the Pokémon Sun and Moon era brought a lot of changes to the franchise. The standard gym-hopping quest was replaced by the Island Challenge, HMs were finally done away with and replaced by the Ride Pager, Alolan forms (and all manner of quirky and questionable Pokémon besides) were added to the mix… what a time to be alive. Sun and Moon also brought us an intriguing new duo of mascot Legendaries, the Psychic- and Ghost-type Lunala and the Psychic/Steel Solgaleo....

Water-Types are a must in the Pokémon franchise — any good trainer has at least one on their team! As well as being a must when put up against Fire-type Pokémon (at least if you’d like a type advantage for an easy win), they can get you around using the Surf HM in many games. But it’s hard to know what moveset to create and stick with for a Pokémon....

Generation 1 of Pokémon is where the franchise began, and players have many fond memories from their childhood about experiencing the original Kanto region. Although generation 1 can be very nostalgic for a lot of players, it also lacks a lot of features that current Pokémon games have put forth. The weird Pokémon designs and the boring, evil team of generation 1 are a few of the things that fans will find to be lacking in Kanto....

Like a lot of you, I’m sure, I’ve been following the Pokémon franchise since the early days of Pokémania. In the late 90s, I’d get out of my Pikachu bed, throw my Pikachu pencil case into my Pikachu rucksack, and head out the door for a long day of trading Pokémon cards with my friends. Needless to say, we were just on the cusp of literally being too cool for school, but they let us in anyway....

It’s been amazing to watch the Pokémon franchise evolve over time. What started as a humble monster hunting handheld RPG has evolved into an absolute phenomenon. Now there aren’t only Pokémon video games, but also popular anime series, a competitive trading card game, and a wealth of spin-off entries. Pokémon Masters is one of the more recent spin-offs in the franchise and it follows in the footsteps of Pokémon GO as a free-to-play mobile game that takes a different approach to the franchise....

Wingull goes all the way back to third generation, the glory days of Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald. As a dual-type with both Water and Flying properties, it was never one of the best Pokémon. All it took was one Thunderbolt to send poor Wingull, and its evolution Pelipper, packing. That fact remained the same all the way through Gen Six, when Pelipper was denied the power of Mega Evolution. But then Gen Seven gave Pelipper a buff....

In Pokemon, Fire Types reign supreme as one of the best types in the whole game. Many Fire-Type moves deal devastating amounts of damage and are often among the moves with the highest base power in the entire game. There is a large pool of Fire-Type moves to choose from, and some simply stand above the rest as the best in all of Pokemon. Some Pokemon have exclusive signature moves that are insanely powerful, while others deal great damage with slight trade-offs that are almost always worth it....

The Pokemon GO team reveals via Twitter that players of the augmented reality game will see more Pokemon in outdoor locations, both in rural and urban communities. While it’s had some ups and downs since its release six months ago, Pokemon GO is undoubtedly a huge success for developer Niantic. The augmented reality game maintains a strong player base, and has been making fixes and adding new features to the game on a regular basis in an effort to keep players happy and engaged....

In response to the coronavirus pandemic, Niantic, the developer of Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, Ingress Prime, and Pokemon GO, announced via its website that it will be making substantial changes to all three. The collective aim of the updates is to make Niantic’s games easier to play while much of its user base is quarantined inside of their homes. This is an especially important move for Niantic, as Wizards Unite, Ingress, and Pokemon GO are rather unconventional for video games, revolving around users moving around the real world and utilizing augmented reality....
