It seems that a lot of PC players have been tuning into the Midnight Channel, as the Steam version of Persona 4 Golden has already sold half a million copies on the platform.
Persona 4 Golden was originally released for the PSVita back in 2011. It’s an updated version of Persona 4 for the PlayStation 2, which added new story scenes and additional content. The game remained on the PSVita for a long time and it was considered by many to be the main reason to purchase the system, but that all changed last month when Persona 4 Golden was shadowdropped on Steam.
The Persona franchise has been closely connected to the PlayStation brand, but that might soon be changing. An official tweet has been uploaded to the Atlus West Twitter account, announcing that Persona 4 Golden has already sold half a million copies in the space of a month. Character Designer Shigenori Soejima created a special piece of artwork depicting Yu, Nanako, and Teddie to celebrate the occasion.
The Atlus West account also mentioned in the comments that today marks the 10th anniversary of the release of Persona 4 on PlayStation 2 in Japan.
Atlus has been gradually opening up its franchises to multi-platform releases, which has included remastering titles for modern systems. Catherine: Full Body was recently released for Nintendo Switch, while Persona 4 Golden is now on PC. We hope that this leads to more Atlus ports in the future, as many of the incredible older titles in their library are stuck on older systems. Fans have been asking for Persona 5 and Persona 5 Royal to be brought to other systems, while many Shin Megami Tensei games can only be played on the PlayStation 3 and Nintendo 3DS/DS.
Atlus and Sega are sitting on a goldmine with the Shin Megami Tensei/Persona library, and we hope that the success of Persona 4 Golden on PC leads to more titles being remastered in the future.
