Persona 5 Strikers did a wonderful job of exploring a highschool reunion with the Phantom Thieves. In the game, the group learns that the Metaverse has come back with a new type of distorted dungeon called jails. Not wanting to be framed for the changes of heart occurring across the country, the group agrees to work with a public security official named Zenkichi and go on a cross-country tour of Japan.
All of the original Persona users are back, including Makoto. True to her development in the last game, Queen is a woman with a strong will and even stronger fists.
10 Her Driving Endurance is Amazing
Makoto was the driver in the first Person game, and that didn’t change in Strikers. She gladly volunteers herself as the driver and ensures that the group makes it safely to each city. She is able to pull extremely long shifts at the wheel and keeps going for the majority of the game.
She does admit that Zenkichi is a better driver, but even he is surprised by her endurance.
9 She Has Grown Closer to Sai
Makoto and Sai had a bit of a rocky relationship in the first Persona until Sai came to her senses. The girls are shown to have grown closer in Strikers. The moment Makoto is in trouble, Sai jumps to the rescue and goes to Kyoto in order to protect her little sister.
Makoto also speaks highly of her, and the two will end up working together in the future due to their careers.
8 She Has Grown Fonder of Her Father
Makoto talked a bit about her father in the first game. With age comes understanding, though, as Makoto explained to Akane. Makoto reveals that her feeling towards her father’s absence of a child has changed over the years, especially after getting more involved with the group.
She is still extremely proud of her dad, and he is her ultimate role model.
7 She Made it to College
It’s no surprise that the studious Makoto is now 19 and successfully going to the college of her choice. According to her dialogue, she is doing well on her exams and takes her studies quite seriously. She is even able to tutor Akane on middle school equations without a problem.
Makoto will likely graduate at the top of her class and will make it to the police force without a problem.
6 She is Joining The Police Force
Makoto has kept true to her promise to be a police officer to help keep Tokyo safe. One of the first one on one conversations the group has with Zenkichi is between him and Makoto. He tells her about the reality of being a cop and dealing with all the red tape.
Makoto says that she realizes the limitations of officers and is still planning to pursue the career.
5 She Seems Closer With Haru
Haru and Niijima were both third-years in the previous game and graduated together. They are currently the only two out of the group that are attending college. It seems that they have been spending time together, though, as Makoto knows about Haru’s driving all too well.
It’s not surprising to see the girls working together, especially given their studious nature.
4 She Has Great Parenting Skills
Makoto is the most likely out of the group to handle parenting well. Makoto has always acted as the voice of reason for the group, but her time with Akane shows another side. Makoto handles the young girl with ease and is able to get through to her on emotional subjects.
She also is shown agreeing with many of Zenkichi’s thoughts on the group’s reckless ideas.
3 Her Fear of Ghost Has Grown
In the first game, Makoto nearly fell apart when the group mistook Futaba for a ghost. With all the travel in the Metaverse, players thought that Makoto would have gotten better at dealing with the supernatural. The moment the group enters the Okinawa Jail, though, she once again attaches to Joker’s leg.
Makoto doesn’t seem like she is ever going to get over her fear of ghosts, and it looks like it has even gotten much worse since Persona 5.
2 Makoto is Canonically Interested in Joker
While Ann may blow Joker off if invited on the Ferris wheel, Makoto seems quite interested in the leader of the group. Makoto asks Joker if they are on a date; if the player says they are, then she completely accepts the idea.
Makoto also talks about how all the girls around her already are dating and tells Joker that she feels a bit left behind.
1 Makoto is a Fan of Yakuza: Like a Dragon
One of the most surprising things about Makoto is that she is a huge fan of the Yakuza series. This is shown in a secret movie cutscene in Persona 5 and again in hidden dialogue in Strikers. Makoto complains to Joker about not wanting to go buy Like a Dragon on her own.
Apparently, she has been waiting for the game’s release and is quite excited to play the title.
