Persona 5 was a breath of fresh air when it was originally released back in 2016, with the Royal edition serving as a newer and fresher way for players to either replay the game or experience greatness for the first time. The wait for this game’s release was simply agonizing, and — thankfully — the end product managed to meet the hype if not exceed it altogether.

A large part of why Persona 5 was so successful was its cast of characters, with each of them being brilliant and memorable in their own right. The Phantom Thieves, in particular, have paved their way into the hearts of fans all over the world with their eccentric yet lovable mannerisms.

One such character is Haru, who is the last person to join the main cast of the game. While this might indicate towards her not having that much of an impact as a party member, Atlus still fleshed her out enough to make her presence notable. However, nothing is perfect, and there are certain things about Haru that are woefully unexplained.

11 Why Is She The Only Party Member (Aside From Joker) Who Can Learn Gun Skills?

This might be somewhat arbitrary to complain about, but it’s somewhat weird that Haru is the only one in the party that can learn gun skills aside from Joker.

Guess having a grenade launcher has its perks.

Speaking of which…

10 Why Does A Meek Girl Like Her Use Massive Weapons Like Battle Axes And Grenade Launchers?

Haru is generally the calmest person in the entire group, with her composed and understanding nature contributing heavily to her allure as a character.

So, it’s somewhat jarring to see that this seemingly calm woman ends up wielding the brawniest weapons in the game. Her strength is quite high, with her battle axes and grenade launchers contributing to a ton of damage.

9 Is She Still Infatuated With Joker If He Rejects Her?

Once Joker starts his Social Link with Haru, it becomes abundantly clear that she has a major crush on him. If a player rejects her — which is just the absolute worst move — Haru is clearly affected by this, but tracks back from her advances.

However, the game never clarifies whether Haru has actually moved on or not, since her affections were quite strong. For all we know, Haru might’ve still been in a one-sided relationship with the protagonist.

8 Does Her Nice Girl Facade Hide Something Sinister?

The previous two points should make one thing abundantly clear — Haru’s way more than just her nice girl persona.

Certain moments in the game also point to this, such as when she enjoys cutting down Shadows in Mementos a tad too much for our liking. This, coupled with the fact that her response to Joker is a bit too psycho for our liking — with her telling Joker to take her chocolates before she crushes them — is definitely indicative of the fact that there’s more to Haru’s character than she’s letting on.

7 How Is She Able To Grow Vegetables In Just A Week?

Video game logic is quite real, but the fact that Haru is able to grow vegetables in just a week is still quite questionable regardless.

Vegetables like tomatoes, carrots, onions, and beans that should ideally take months to grow are available for consumption in just a week.

It seems that Haru’s gardening skills are simply out of this world… well, either that or the game simply didn’t care for this admittedly small detail.

5 So… Did She Hate Her Father Or Not?

Haru’s oppressive father is one of the main reasons why she tries to be understanding and calm — both qualities that her father lacked. It was clear that she wanted to distance herself from her father as much as possible.

However, after taking care of her father and obliterating his oppression once and for all, Haru actually regrets how things turn out. This makes it confusing to gauge what she actually felt towards her father.

4 Why Did She Choose To Stick With The Phantom Thieves After What Happened To Her Father?

Haru’s main attempt to invade her father’s palace was to reform him and make him understand the error of his ways. Unfortunately, things go sour when he ends up suffering something akin to a heart attack and dies.

By all accounts, a person like Haru who was new to the concept of stealing people’s hearts should’ve been heartbroken by this development and questioned the actions of the Phantom Thieves, if not selling them out instantly.

Instead, what we see is a melancholic Haru sticking with the Phantom Thieves without a care in the world.

3 What Was The Point Of Her Teaming Up With Morgana?

Haru’s introduction to the Phantom Thieves is pretty weak, with her teaming up along with a frustrated Morgana who can’t stop questioning his worth in the group.

This entire segment feels completely hamfisted and forced, with Haru being used as nothing more than a worthless accessory to further Morgana’s character arc.

2 Why Did She Appear So Late In The Game?

This might seem like a moot question, but the fact that Haru appears so late in the game definitely affects her overall appeal as a character.

Her entire character simply cannot develop as much as the others since her screen time is woefully inadequate. This makes for a one-note character whose overt niceness is the only thing separating her from being completely forgettable.

Her late appearance would also screw up any person’s plans of attaining as many social links as possible.

By this time, it should be pretty evident that players have already started pursuing their favourite social links and are in it for the long haul. Not only is Haru’s social link at the very end, but it also requires a gardening skill that most players couldn’t even bother with working on.
