After Akechi says this, one of two dialogue choices will occur. There’s one with Ryuji, who apparently has no chill whatsoever:
And another one with Ann, who also immediately goes against Akechi’s request with a huge smile on her face:
Beyond the hilarious self-awareness of this meta dialogue, this exchange implies, within the world of the game, that at some point after he failed in executing Joker, Akechi may have realized his mistake.
Or, the more likely option, given his decision to make this comment in front of all the others, the Phantom Thieves told Akechi they knew he was lying all because of his love for some delicious breakfast cakes. Now there’s a conversation I wish they had included in the third semester…
