Persona 5 Strikers is full of some of the funniest moments in the series. There is one particular moment involving Zenkichi, the newcomer to the team, and his daughter that will have fans going absolutely hysterical. It might even rival Persona 5’s comedy content, but no matter which one is better, this game will assuredly alleviate some stress.
Needless to say, it has resulted in some great memes as well. There are some oddities about the game that may not have been intended as comical, but they sure got there anyway. There will be some minor spoilers ahead so be warned before traveling down the road of giggles.
10 What Is A Man?
Ango Natsume sees himself as the demon lord over his dominion. His Jail is set up like a gothic castle that would fit right in with the Castlevania series. That’s why this meme makes so much sense to use in this game. It is a specific reference to the bad translation that the North American version of Symphony of the Night got on PS1, wherein Dracula asks this exact question.
9 The Ark Of The Persona
The Ark of the Covenant is the final boss in the game, which is a weird name. It comes after the fact that Persona 5’s final boss was called the Holy Grail. What’s next for this series? The Crystal Skull?
Regardless of names, this meme is a reference to the end of Raiders of the Lost Ark wherein Indy and Marion have to keep their eyes shut while the Ark melts the skin off of the Nazis.
8 The Banana Stand
Arrested Development did not invent the concept of a chocolate-covered banana. However, they certainly earned their right to full meme status. That’s why it’s hard not to think of that show, and this particular scene, whenever one sees a banana stand in-game. There is always money in the banana stand, and even Persona gets that. It’s a lucrative and tasty business.
7 The Phantom Bernies
Persona 5 had the Phantom Thieves eventually join up with a lawyer, AKA Sae, Makoto’s sister. This game has them team up with a cop in order to bring justice down. Both games have politicians set up as the bad guys, but what if there was a twist to that in the sequel? Since they worked with lawyers and police before, it would not be hard to imagine them teaming up with someone like Bernie Sanders in order to help bring justice to the world. Whatever the future holds for Persona, this meme is just fun.
6 Persona X Kingdom Hearts
This game’s version of a Treasure took the form of Desires, which looked like big red gems. Most Jails ended with them being held against a giant moon. These areas are very reminiscent of a scene toward the end of Kingdom Heart 2. It’s here that Xemnas is almost in possession of a full-hearted moon, AKA Kingdom Hearts.
5 The Mighty Monarch
Monarchs are the rulers of Jails. They are often referred to by monsters as just that, Monarchs, without direct names being mentioned. If one is a fan of the now-canceled Venture Bros. cartoon from Adult Swim, then it must be hard not to think of the mighty Monarch whenever that term comes up. This meme works especially well since this monster is a moth that is close enough to the Monarch’s butterfly theme.
4 Ichiban To The Rescue
Mariko Hyodo holds some debates around Sapporo in the game via her campaign wagon. They are scenes reminiscent of another Sega game that recently released — Yakuza: Like A Dragon. Toward the middle of that game the hero, Ichiban, must run for a position in his district. It makes sense then to see him try and go against Mariko in order to squash injustice in another region of Japan. Yakuza really should crossover with Persona officially at some point.
3 A New Recipe
The original quote from Final Fantasy XV’s Ignis is, “I’ve come up with a new recipe.” Having Morgana change the line still fits in with the original concept of the sentiment.
This game actually has a lot in common with Final Fantasy XV. It’s a road trip amongst friends wherein camping is the usual means of sleep and there’s quite a bit of cooking or food involved in the story.
2 Tiny Nets
Kung Pow: Enter the Fist is now almost twenty years old. It’s a cult classic unlike the references to Indiana Jones or Arrested Development, which are both more socially ingrained. The joke in that movie is that a tiny net barely big enough to cover one’s face is somehow able to stop the hero. The sentiment applies to this game too, seeing as how these boys have magical powers which could seemingly easily destroy a net.
1 Samurai Warriors DLC Confirmed
Besides being the creators of Dynasty Warriors, Koei Tecmo also made the Samurai Warriors franchise. In this game, the Phantom Thieves visit a shrine dedicated to Date Masamune, a real historical figure on top of being one of Samurai Warriors’ key players. It would be funny to see Koei Tecmo add him in somehow through DLC, maybe through VR in an arcade setup in the game.
