Persona is a JRPG franchise that has continued to become more and more popular over time. This has a lot to do with two core aspects of the game, the social links and the characters associated with them. Even though it’s also known for its dungeon and combat system, it is these aspects specifically that brought fans back over and over again. Of course with each character, they are always joined by their corresponding Arcana.
With that being said, here are the best characters for every arcana in the entire series. This list will also not include exclusive arcana’s such as Faith or Jester outside of one exception. Readers are warned on spoilers.
22 The Fool: Joker
Starting off this list is the main protagonist of Persona 5. Even though he is one of three Fools that is the protagonists of Persona 3-5, he’s arguably the most popular.
Showing up in Super Smash Bros. and bringing in many new fans to the Persona franchise as a whole.
21 Magician: Yosuke Hanamura
Yosuke Hanamura was a character from Persona 4 who is quite vulnerable but also knows when he has to be there for his partner. Although the magicians are the type to be great friends, it’s arguable that Yosuke Hanamura is the best of them all.
20 Chariot: Chie Satonaka
Chie Satonaka is the chariot in Persona 4. Known for her absolute love of Kung Fu and her spunky attitude, she is greatly loved for all of those and also her glorious instant kill. That being said she is a great friend who tries her best to help everyone in need.
19 Priestess: Makoto Nijima
Makoto Nijima is incredibly confident, strong and is able to throw hands in order to protect her friends. But not only that, but she is also a strong leader acting as a proxy to Joker’s more silent personality. Which is partly why so many fans appeal to her.
18 Empress: Mitsuru Kirijo
Empress’s are often known for their leadership positions and they are more often than not known for their more nobility like positions. Mitsuru Kirijo is easily the best choice thanks to her strong position within Persona 3’s narrative.
17 Emperor: Kanji Tatsumi
Kanji Tatsumi is an amazing Emperor thanks to having both an incredibly strong exterior and incredibly sweet interior? This along with his relatable inner turmoil regarding sexuality easily makes him one of the greats.
16 Hierophant: Sojiro Sakura
Sojiro Sakura is one of the best father figures in the series, only barely beating Ryotaro Dojima. Not only is he often defined as being coffee dad, but his growth on liking Joker as a person throughout the series is nothing more than incredible. It also helps that he’s an incredibly hard worker and makes a mean curry.
15 Lovers: Yukari Takeba
Yukari Takeba is part of the Lovers arcana. Although her personality might not be liked by some fans, her direct connection to the plot along with her character development makes her a standout amongst her arcana.
14 Justice: Goro Akechi
Goro Akechi is a brilliant young man who is both intelligent as he is interesting. However, over time it is shown that he is, in fact, one of the villains who the players throughout Persona 5 have been hearing about. That being said, especially by Persona 5 Royal, he is greatly beloved by many.
13 Hermit: Futaba Sakura
Futaba Sakura is the adopted daughter of Sojiro Sakura and she has quite a tragic backstory. As her mother was murdered as a result of the cognitive breakdowns, she has been treated poorly by many except her father for the longest time. But over time she broke out of her shell and became so much more.
12 Fortune: Naoto Shirogane
Naoto Shirogane is the detective prince that often disguises herself as a boy. By using her strong deductive intelligence she is one of the best characters in all of Persona 4. Beneath all of that serious exterior is actually someone that is quite sentimental to everyone involved.
11 Strength: Caroline & Justine
Caroline and Justine embody strength. Their duality is boasted by their strength as they constantly give Joker a hard time for his benefit. Whether that’s making him make Personas by their demands or fighting him in a boss fight.
10 Death: Pharos
The entity that has lived within Makoto Yuki throughout his growth, Pharos is directly connected to the Death arcana due to his unique role. Being directly connected to Nyx who is the embodiment of death.
9 Temperance: Sadayo Kawakami
Sadayo Kawakami is one of the teachers of the Persona 5 cast and is known for being incredibly exhausted with life in general. Whether people like her for her personality, her position as a maid or her character development.
8 Tower: Shinya Oda
Shinya Oda is the choice for the Tower arcana. As one of the best players at the arcades in Akihabara, his confidant often deals with issues with his mother or at school. Allowing him to grow as a person. His cocky attitude working very well with the nature of his arcana.
7 Star: Hifumi Togo
Hifumi Togo is the choice for the Star arcana and is particularly known for her luck as the Venus of Shogi. However, her story is often plagued with issues from the expectations of others.
6 Moon: Maya Amano
Maya Amano is the Moon arcana as well as the protagonist of Persona 2: Eternal Punishment. She is known for her outgoing personality as well as kind nature to all of her companions.
5 Judgement: Sae Nijima
The person that demands the truth, Sae Nijima is the sister of Makoto Nijima and is a hard-working lawyer within the system. Despite her rough exterior, she often means well and offers to help the Phantom Thieves whenever she can post casino palace.
4 Sun: Tatsuya Suou
The tragic protagonist of Persona 2: Innocent Sin, he is easily the best choice for the Sun arcana due to everything he has been through. Being a living time paradox, he has the ability to stop time.
3 Aeon: Aigis
The android with the heart of a human, Aigis is a fan favorite to many fans of Persona 3 with good reason. Her character growth along with her deep connection to the main protagonist, as well as obtaining the wild card makes her the best choice for Aeon.
