The BitSummit stream this weekend has been loaded with a ton of surprises. From the release date announcement for Curse of the Moon 2 to the unveiling of Azure Striker GUNVOLT 3, I don’t think anyone was anticipating a nostalgia-laden entry into the Picross S series. After showing trailers for both Picross S4 and Working Zombies, indie developer Jupiter premiered a teaser for Picross S: Mega Drive & Mark III Edition. As the name would imply, this is a collection of puzzles in tribute to Sega’s classic consoles.
There’s not any actual footage of the game, but do you really need to know anything else about Picross? The series is basically a riff on Sudoku where you create pixel art images by placing numbers in a specific pattern. Jupiter has been making these games for years and they’ve all been relatively solid. There’s no reason to believe this Sega themed variant will be a dud.
In a twist that would blow the minds of 90s kids, Mega Drive & Mark III Edition will be a Switch exclusive. I’m still a little shaken by how Nintendo and Sega are getting along, but I’m all for taking puzzles on the go.
Picross S: Mega Drive & Mark III Edition is said to be “coming soon.” It will likely release in Japan first before getting a localization.
