The multiplayer aspect of Animal Crossing: New Horizons may be a struggle for those playing couch co-op and sharing an island but players are discovering that the online aspect is a whole other ball game. Inventive gamers have been creating their very own mini-games on their islands, inviting friends over for rounds of musical chairs and much more. Now, thanks to the wonders of social media, Twitter user Douglas Wilson has collated them all together. It makes for a really entertaining read.
The thread appears to have been inspired by a Reddit post by u/tetratara who posted a wholesome video of this musical chairs contest.
Leading with this, Twitter user Douglas Wilson started a thread to share this and more amazing mini-game ideas. Here are our favorites.
Simplicity
Some of the games are very simple but that doesn’t make them less entertaining. One of these is hit your opponent with a net, which is a three-player game that lives up to its name. One player is the judge and keeps a close eye on their screen as the others try to hit each other with a net.
Another simple but amusing game is “Don’t jump into the holes.” This requires one person to dig a number of holes along the riverbank, leaving a gap. The second person has to stand on the other side, far enough back that they cannot see the holes before they jump. The aim is to predict where the safety gap is.
Gambling
With the ability to bury anything in the ground, some players have taken to games of chance that involve digging up a prize that could be anything, from bells to branches. This gambling concept has also been taken to greater heights, as shown by this clip from GrandPOObear’s stream.
Players are also hosting quizzes and trivia nights, with varying levels of complexity and reward.
Classics
Hide and seek and sardines style games are also very popular, especially on more complex islands with a variety of scenery and a museum with exhibits to hide behind. Other popular and common activities include creating mazes and obstacle courses as well as scavenger hunts. A user known as Someone Whatever even took this to the next level, beginning to map out a Clue style investigation.
It’s safe to say that New Horizons is inspiring players to use their imaginations to create new and interesting ways of injecting life into the multiplayer game. Make sure to check the full thread for more details and more ideas.
