The PlayStation 5 is set to release on November 12th, 2020 in numerous countries around the world. With the success of PlayStation 4, it’s safe to say that the PS5 will likely be flying off of store shelves and will be pretty tough to acquire. If someone is on the fence about whether to buy one or not, there are strong cases for either decision.

As the PS5 costs, at the minimum, $399, purchases need to be thought through. What are some of the best reasons to buy the PS5 by launch day? What reasons are there for holding off from picking up Sony’s console?

10 Wait: Best Is Yet To Come

The hard truth of the matter is that a console’s price will never be higher and its library will never be as weak as it is in the system’s launch period. This means that if a player purchases the PlayStation 5 at any point after launch, they will be entering the best place it has been.

There’s nothing wrong with waiting until the library becomes more robust and maybe the chances of grabbing one for $50-100 off comes along. It comes down to how much someone is personally affected by the feeling of missing out on a new cool thing.

9 Buy: Automatic Improvements

By now everyone understands the optimized benefits the next-gen hardware will have on game development and the ports of already existing games. One thing that’s flown under the radar it seems are the automatic improvements PlayStation 4 titles will see on PlayStation 5 when it comes to visual fidelity and framerate.

Thanks to the way the system’s architecture is structured, many of these older games will see boosts to their performance simply due to the solid-state drives and the processing of information as data is loaded and unloaded.

8 Wait: Launch Issues

In many ways, early adopters in the technology industry tend to be alpha and beta testers in certain ways. A lot of times these new consoles launch with issues that are missed and only become apparent when mass audiences are using them.

To avoid any unnecessary issues with the new consoles, it might be wise to wait until updates and revisions iron out these problems. Not only will your wallet thank you, but given the world’s current situation it might be beneficial to have one less thing to worry about.

7 Buy: PlayStation Plus Collection

The Playstation 5 isn’t only launching with a great lineup of games and backward compatibility, it has a special collection as well. PlayStation Plus members will have access to a special collection of select PlayStation 4 titles via their new program called the PlayStation Plus Collection.

It’s currently unclear how long this will be available, if games will be added or removed, and when or if things will rotate in and out. Either way, it’s a nice idea in which PS5 gamers can experience the best of what the last generation had to offer.

6 Wait: Backlog

Though the PlayStation 5 will be backward compatible, that doesn’t mean it needs to be purchased by launch day. Most players have a backlog of games and often they get caught in the hype train that is new releases.

As this next generation gets going, owners with older systems can focus on getting through their backlog of games. Far too often people push what they can do today to tomorrow, but if someone goes ahead and buys the PS5, there’s a good chance that tomorrow may never come for their backlog.

5 Buy: Backwards Compatibility

Backward compatibility has been a known quantity for Xbox and its platform for years now and PlayStation fans were hoping the PlayStation 5 would take that next step to do the same. Thankfully, part of their prayers was answered when Sony revealed that the PS5 would be completely backward compatible with PlayStation 4 titles.

This now means games can purchase the new system and not worry about stranded their library of purchased games on a system they will no longer be using. It’s a checkmark on the side of the argument leaning towards making the purchase.

4 Wait: Price

It’s safe to say that the PlayStation 5 provides quite the value as a piece of hardware priced at $500. Things don’t happen in a vacuum though and the world is currently going through a global pandemic.

Money is quickly becoming a lot tighter. An argument can be made that a new entertainment system can help people cope with the state of the world, but at the end of the day, each person needs to decide where that $500 can be best used in the coming months.

3 Buy: New Hardware

There’s this weird phenomenon where people will buy new products simply because they want to be in on the ground floor. Often times, the need for a product is outweighed by the want of it.

The PlayStation 5 is a very futuristic and unorthodox looking piece of hardware; at the very least, it is a conversation starter when placed in the living room. As previously mentioned, the fact that Sony committed to providing backward compatibility for PlayStation 4 titles makes it so players can hop into next-gen with no buyer’s remorse.

2 Wait: PS4 Releases

The biggest launch title on either Xbox Series X or PlayStation 5 is Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. The issue is that the game is also releasing on the PlayStation 4 as well. This means that you don’t need to invest $500 in a new console to play the new Spider-Man game, even though the PS5 provides plenty of incentives and upgrades.

If a customer is really into Spider-Man and on the fence about getting a PS5 at launch, why wouldn’t they just spend $60 and purchase the current generation version of the game? In fact, many of the PS5’s most exciting early games will also be released on the PS4.

1 Buy: Spider-Man

The simplest and most obvious reason as to why someone should purchase a PlayStation 5 on launch day is Spider-Man. You may be wondering how a famous superhero factors into gaming, but he’s a core piece of what Sony will focus on with the PlayStation 5.

At launch, players will not only get to dive into the brand new Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, but will also be able to play the remastered version of 2018’s Game of the Year nominee, Marvel’s Spider-Man. It’s a good time to be a fan of the web-slingers from Marvel.
