The latest few generations of consoles have brought about a wealth of technological innovations that make gaming even more of a wonder than it already has been. One of the amazing features that is often ignored and underrated is the PlayStation’s Remote Play. The feature has been around since the PS3, but the PS4 and PS5 perfected its implementation.
Remote Play allows players to link their PS5 to their mobile device, for use as a second screen. While both devices have to be on the same wi-fi network, this feature makes it incredibly convenient to bring your gaming anywhere in the house, or to let someone else use the TV screen while you game elsewhere. It’s a fantastic feature that should be taken advantage of by more PS5 owners.
5 Installing The Remote Play App
Whether you are using an Android or Apple phone or tablet, download the PS Remote Play app. This app will let you attach your PS5 to your device, and will stream the screen to this screen. A tablet is recommended for its bigger screen, but the beauty of Remote Play is that if a phone is more convenient, you can do it! You can also either leave your PS5 DualSense controller connected to the PS5, or attach it to your device via Bluetooth.
4 Connect Your PS5 To Remote Play
Keep in mind that both your PS5 and your Remote Play device must be attached to the same wi-fi connection, and your wi-fi connection must have download and upload speeds of at least 5 mbps in order to maintain a solid stream.
On your PS5, select Settings -> System -> Remote Play, and then make sure Enable Remote Play is turned on. You only need to set this up once, and then you can automatically connect to your PS5 with your device from now on.
3 Sign In To PSN And Begin Remote Play
Open the PS Remote Play on your device and sign into your PSN account. Once this is done, the app will search for the PS5 that is associated with the PSN account you just entered. Select your PS5, and your device will begin to cast the screen. Depending on your internet connection, you can change the image quality and frame rate preferences in the settings menu of the PS Remote Play app before you connect to your PS5.
2 Choose Your Control Method
Once you’ve connected to your PS5, you can either connect your DualSense controller to your device to play games the traditional way, or you can use the touch screen buttons that appear once you tap the screen.
The controller option is definitely recommended, but it’s great to have the option available for touch. Unfortunately, the haptic feedback feature of the DualSense isn’t available if you use touch controls.
1 Exiting Remote Play
When you finish gaming in your new mobile fashion, you simply need to either go into the options menu of the PS Remote Play app, navigate to Settings and click Disconnect to quit. You can also just close the app entirely, and your PS5 console will stop casting to the device. Opening, connecting, and closing the console is an absolute breeze, and it’s easier than ever to bring your gaming all around the house!
