The latest update around Sony’s postponement of the PlayStation 5 reveal is that we may be looking at a reveal date pushed back by several weeks still.

Sony had decided to postpone the highly-anticipated next-gen console’s official reveal event - meant to be going down tonight - in light of the current unrest making waves throughout the world.

Their decision was a hugely necessary one, and as they rightly put it in their official statement from a few days ago, now isn’t the right time for a celebration to be held, and that more important voices need to take center stage for the time being rather.

While some had thought perhaps the new replacement date would be as soon as next week, since their announcement Sony still haven’t set a new confirmed date for the reveal event. It’s likely that it won’t be any sooner than several weeks, though.

Although this decision is undoubtedly going to have more than a few knock-on effects including publicity delays around anything that was due to be revealed tonight, it’s certainly an understandable consequence of current events that we need to allow to happen.

Regardless, the actual release of the PlayStation 5 is still confirmed for Christmas 2020 - according to Sony’s CEO Jim Ryan, who reassures us that things are still on track in that regard.
