DMCA takedown systems are often broken and bad - we all know this to be true. Content creators have numerous horror stories about working with automated takedown systems, and publishers aren’t immune to the headache, either.
Sony got its time in the sun today with a trailer for The Last of Us Part II, which is just under a month away from release now. A few weeks after their tweet went live, they wound up having to deal with Twitter’s notoriously byzantine Rubic’s Cube of a copyright claim system.
Is this the result of angry gamers abusing the system to get a takedown? Is it a DMCA false flag? A combination of the two? Who’s to say! These takedowns very rarely make any sense, and that lack of coherence is now just an accepted part of our daily internet life. It’s pretty funny, honestly, and a fairly damning testament to just how broken these systems are. At any rate, Sony will probably get the trailer put back up lickity split.
The Last of Us Part II is closer than ever, after years of delays and a controversial leak that spilled the beans on most of the game. We’ll get to see if it’s worth the wait very, very soon.
