If retro-style action platformers are your thing, then you are in luck come late June, as Nape Games will be releasing a collection of old-school indie games that should be right up your alley.
Later this month, PLOID SAGA will be released containing three titles from the developer, including V.O.I.D.+, PLOID, and UCHUSEN 2 Ultimate Ploid Battle, all bundled in a single package for Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam.
While the three titles might seem like older games than have been remastered, they are, in fact, brand new titles. V.O.I.D.+ and PLOID are platformers similar to that of the Mega Man series, while UCHUSEN 2 Ultimate Ploid Battle is a vertical shoot ‘em up. All of the games feature retro-style pixelated art with chiptune soundtracks that are sure to delight old school fans.
Nape Games has loaded the bundle with tons of additional features, including HD music as well as the ability to choose the style of graphics you wish to play in, such as retro or normal. Artwork galleries and a music player mode are also included with the package.
While the games will have their own story modes and normalized gameplay, additional modes are included for players in need of an extra challenge. For instance, EX-MODE features remixed levels of V.O.I.D.+ with added challenges. EX-MODE should be considerably more difficult, given the base game being touted as having “hardcore platform-based levels.” In addition, players can take on the Switch-exclusive Joy-Con Challenge, which tasks players with taking on EX-MODE with only one hand and one Joy-Con Controller. Platforming games - especially retro-style platformers - are hard enough as it is. Those familiar with games in the platforming genre should know how difficult (and crazy) this type of one-handed mechanic will probably be.
PLOID SAGA looks to have everything that old-school platforming fans could want, while those new to platforming can see just how fun (and difficult) the genre can be - that added difficulty coming through on Nintendo Switch.
PLOID SAGA is slated for a June 25th release on PC and Nintendo Switch.
