The most sought after type in the early generations and for good reason, Dragon types have ruled the imaginations of fans for decades. Even though there are clearly more powerful types for certain situations, throughout the years’ dragons have remained a top ticket item.
With some of the highest stats per Pokémon of any type, the chances are if you manage to catch one they’ll be a major asset. With some of the most iconic Pokémon to date, the roster of Dragon-types continues to rise as new generations come. Being one of the most scarce types in the game, they also demand a high demand.
10 Dragonite
Dragonite has been an iconic Pokémon that showed itself in the first episodes of the series, towering over a lighthouse and imprinting its image into the minds of fans everywhere. Neytirix has taken that daunting image and transformed into a dreamy landscape, one that better captures the hulking Dragons friendly nature.
Being on the powerhouses of the first generation, Dragonite has carried its legendary status through 8 generations and continues to be a desired beast to this day.
9 Latios/Latias
Latias and Latios are the lighthearted guardian dragons, making their debut in the Ruby and Sapphire games, both are a particularly powerful combination of Dragon and Psychic-type.
With a sibling-like relationship, the two are some of the least aggressive legendary Pokémon in the series. Looking to help more than harm, Tamberella has done a great job of showing the more docile side of the duo.
8 Salamence
One of the truest representations of a dragon in all of Pokémon, Salamence was the shining light for all fans that had been clinging onto hope since the Charizard days were over.
Sa-dui has captured the hefty goal of showing it in all its draconic glory while also giving viewers a sense of that wicked temper it’s known to have.
7 Altaria
While it might be the least intimidating of the dragons as far as looks go, doubting Altaria would be an unwise choice. The perfect option for players who like to venture on the unassuming side while still packing a serious punch.
Showing us the side so few choose to, Ishmam gives us a look into its more combative side in a brilliant display of color. Mid Sky Attack, I don’t think many would choose to be anywhere near it when it lands.
6 Rayquaza
The head honcho of the 3rd generation, Rayquaza’s majestic presence pushed aside a lot of the standout Pokémon at the time. Who can blame him? the protector of the earths ozone layer needs a place in the leaderboards.
Luckily for us, Crowparty has given us one of the few pieces that show Rayquaza in all his majestic glory. In its natural cloudy habitat, the body winding through the skies, it’s not hard to see why so many fans held it in high regard.
5 Flygon
One of the more unique type combinations on the list, Flygon gave the series a Dragon-type that has an extensive defence all around. Making it one of the most practical players in its type, Flygon has more than likely held a place on the serious trainer’s team.
While it usually doesn’t hold a candle to the likes of Salamence and Rayquaza, Ecrystalica does give it a shot at the top when it comes to intimidation.
4 Dialga
While Dialga doesn’t exactly hark back to the olden days, it has been 14 long years since fans were introduced to the lord of time. Making its debut as a legendary Pokémon like so many Dragon types before it, Dialga might be one of the most mysterious figures in the series.
While it might be tempting to show its entire crested form, Tamberella shows us its true nature. Living in another dimension gets it all the privacy it could possibly need, leaving fans to only capture glimpses.
3 Polkia
Dialga’s counterpart, Polkia controls the dimension of space. Taking up the other half of generation 4’s spotlight, its hulking frame and distinctive coloring made Polkia hard to miss.
Masae has emphasized the sunken, domineering eyes. The feature that stands out against its brawny frame and fluorescent body makes it all the more powerful.
2 Sceptile
The only starter Pokémon to make it to the list, Sceptile is the only one of its evolution chain to make it into dragon status. Meaning when it first hit the Pokédex fans worldwide were pretty excited, even with the likes of Swampert and Blaziken to contend with.
On top of the unique dual type, Sceptile has some vicious Grass attacks. Including the incredibly Solar Beam, a move that has been devastating trainers since Generation 1. Allo412 gives us a beautiful contrast between the glowing attack and the subtle faded form we’ve come to know.
1 Garchomp
Following in Flygon’s footsteps, Garchomp tops the list for effective fighters. Taking a place on many a dragon lovers team, especially when you take a look at it. Sporting two massive claws and a dorsal fin, most trainers were pretty excited to see what he could accomplish on the battlefield.
Keeping it streamlined, Edonovaillustrator highlights those menacing features with stark contrast and vibrant colors. Giving us all an excellent view at just how daunting this Pokémon can be.
