Once one of the most respected types in the game, Electric Pokémon have always been some of the most memorable. Ranging from Pikachu to Zapdos, the roller coaster ride of statistics that accompanies them makes the type a niche choice. Incredible speed and high Special Attack made the dynamic group special.

Unfortunately, the type has seen its once top position stripped by the new scene that now surrounds them. Those players that once specialized have now had to move on or do some pretty creative dual-type combinations, leaving us to remember the good old days, when lightning alone was enough.

10 The Golden Child

Let’s get it out the way, Pikachu is by the far the shining star of the series. Just about everyone you’ll meet knows the electric mouse and most likely loves it. He was the main companion through the show and brings us back to the good old days.

Most memories of Pikachu are going to be playful and heartwarming, Believethehorror shows its renegade side. Throwing it back with Iron Tail move, Pikachu had some serious fighting capabilities on top of the quirky charm.

9 Menacing Zapdos

One of three original legendary Pokémon, Zapdos took the throne for the Electric fans in the game. With insane speed and Special Attack, it’s no wonder it took a spot in most of our parties.

Kezrek delivers one of the most awesome representations of Zapdos with the amazing contrast of its lightning to the gloomy scene. It gives us a glimpse of what terrifying power the legend had.

8 Right Place, Right Time

There were only 9 Electric-type Pokémon in generation 1, making them one of the most memorable to stumble across. Electabuzz had the distinct effect of being a pure electric too, showing up at a great time in the game to add them to your roster.

Dawnbreakerdesigns did a stunning job to make the action shot look realistic. The blur effect and electrical background bring together Eletabuzz’s strengths nicely.

7 Rapid Color

An Eeveelution, Jolteon was destined to go down as one of the most memorable. It and all of its siblings make for a notable group. Even though nowadays its seen as one of the weaker evolutions, Jolteon used to rule the roost in its genesis.

Ishmam delivers a spectacular burst of colour that plays perfectly into Jolteon’s attack style. Instead of the usual yellow and blue lighting, they breathe life into the erratic and powerful nature of the electric type.

6 The Hidden Legend

One of the best designs of the whole lots, even Raikou’s original form is impressive. One of the most elusive Pokémon in the series, it was always a real trial of effort to catch the beast.

Tamberella embraces its subtle nature by shrouding it in realistic clouds, with only its striking tail breaking through the mist. Just enough to maintain the air of mystery while providing some stunning visuals.

5 Power Of The Dog

For one reason or another, the doglike Pokémon have always seen higher popularity, this includes Manectric who’s evolution chain were the first proper dog types in the 3rd generation. The last Pokémon before him was Granbull who, let’s admit it, wasn’t even close.

With so much happening in the piece, Iris-Sempi has added great detail into not only the centrepiece but the background. Right down to the reflections in the flooring, it takes a few looks over to take it all in.

4 Simply Adorable

Usually when a cute Pokémon is stumbled across it means you can expect some major work needed before it can perform well in battle. Mareep is an exception to that rule, any physical attack can paralyze the opponent just by the touch and it’s evolutions are powerful electric teammates.

Mareeps overall look is simple, a great formula for a cute aesthetic. Musicalcombusken stays true to the track and has given us simple, but the distorted effect and glowing tail give a warm vibe to the piece.

3 Raichu’s Revenge

Though it never got as much love as it’s younger form, Raichu was the Pokémon that should have gotten the spotlight. Pikachu was great and all but nothing, power-wise, in comparison to Raichu. His look alone should have encouraged the evolution that so many never put to full use. Demonstrating this point perfectly, Uluri shows fans the difference between the two mice. With a devious look and breathtaking power, it’s clear who big daddy was in the situation.

2 Magnetic Current

Magneton and it’s evolution tree were some of the first electric type Pokémon to appear in the series. With a quirky charm and one of the better sound bytes in the game, it’s the surprising amount of moves that could be learned with one of these bad boys.

Fitting for Magneton, Jyru shows each of the heads with a screw loose. The metallic shine off certain angles is the most impressive with an attention to detail and texture being displayed. Though it isn’t one that instantly pops into players’ heads, Magneton was a key aspect of the early games.

1 The Dynamic Duo

There’s only so much to draw when we’re talking about Voltorb and Electrode, they’re Pokéballs at the end of the day. The ever-interesting part of the design is their expressions, with Voltorb maintaining an angry frown while it’s evolution shows quite the opposite.

Perhaps the result of being in its aggressive teenage years, Hellraisins gets the admittedly simple expression down. Sometimes the hardest thing to do is simple, even little details become obvious.
