Water-type Pokémon are some of the most popular choices when it comes to team comp. You might have chosen a Water-type starter, or maybe just found one and taken a liking to it. Regardless, chances are most fans have utilized at least some of them throughout the years. They might not all be the strongest, but some Water-types are among the most recognized Pokémon in the games.

Every game in the series has had a handful of new and interesting Water-types added to it. Some of them have become pretty popular over the years, and different fans are always finding new ways of paying homage to them. Here are some amazing pieces of Water-type fan art that will make you nostalgic.

10 Psy? - チーフ

First introduced in Gen I, Psyduck will always have a special place in fans’ hearts because of its role in the Pokémon anime. Misty’s Psyduck didn’t do much, but it was always a laugh when it came on screen.

チーフ does a really good job of drawing Psyduck here. Their attention to detail is outstanding, and you have to appreciate how crisp the art looks.

9 Playing Around – Rib

It isn’t shown much in the games, but Pokémon tend to interact with one another pretty frequently. The anime does a good job of showing this off at times, and that’s what this next piece of fan art is reminiscent of.

Rib does a great job of drawing both Kingdra and Politoed in their element with this amazing fan art. The art itself looks really polished and well done, and the atmosphere it creates is nice.

8 Cerulean Squad - ぱぴこ

When it comes to Gym Leaders, Misty is probably one of the most well known. Her role in the original anime plays a big part in that, but so does the fact that she’s one of the earliest Gym battles in Gen I.

ぱぴこdraws Misty and some of the more notable members of her squad here. The art is spot on, and Misty’s – as well as her Pokémon’s – energy jumps out at you.

7 Mudkip - ひばりん

As the Gen III Water-type starter, Mudkip has its fair share of fans in the community. It makes sense, as the little critter gets pretty powerful as your journey progresses.

ひばりん does a nice job here and beautifully draws Mudkip in their own unique style. The light colors mix in well with the artists’ style and create a really nice atmosphere.

6 Lazy River - 石井リス

Going from one starter to another, this time looking at Totodile from Gen II. As is the case with Mudkip, this little critter has quite the fan base, and it isn’t a pushover either.

石井リス draws a more laid back Totodile here, and their style really shines with this piece. Everything is very soothing, from the colors to the scene itself. Though, it looks like Totodile might be in for a rude awakening soon enough.

5 Misty and Co. - くじあ

Another Misty piece, this time with significantly less Pokémon. Fans of the anime will recognize these Pokémon as two of Misty’s favourites from early on in the show.

くじあ certainly has a much different style than most fan artists on this list, and it shows in how they drew Misty as well as her Pokémon. Psyduck has a little more character on its face, and Misty is drawn in a much more modern style. It all comes together nicely.

4 Playful Gym Leader - まめぞう

Yet another Misty piece, this one focused more on her game counterpart. Misty has a much more involved role in her Gym in the games compared to her early role in the anime.

まめぞうshows us Leader Misty as she interacts with her Pokémon. The art is unique and the scene the artist paints is really nice to see, as seeing trainers interact with their Pokémon is always nice.

3 Beach Day – YAJUU

Any piece that shows Pokémon interacting is going to be a good one. These Water-types all look like they’re taking some much deserved time off.

YAJUU paints a pretty picture with this one, and really does a good job of showing off a range of different Water-types (and even manages to sneak in a visitor too).

2 In The Wild - 塩漬けマリン

This is one of the better depictions of Pokémon in the wild shown off in these fan works. As you can see, the world of Pokémon seems like a pretty great place – though that Froakie and Magikarp would probably disagree.

塩漬けマリン creates a really nice scene overall, with a very soothing art style and a lot of beautiful colors all around.

1 Iconic Duo - ぽんゆい

Nessa is one of the most popular water-type Gym Leaders to come around in a long time. She and Misty are probably the two most well known in the entire series.

ぽんゆい does a nice job of drawing them with their most iconic Pokémon. It’s a great mixture of old and new, and it looks outstanding.
