Dark-type Pokémon have been in the series since Generation II of Pokémon, and they aren’t going to stop being one of the most powerful typings anytime soon. With so many fan-favorite creatures residing within the Dark-type, a lot of fans would love to know what the most powerful moveset possibilities will be for some of their favorite creatures.
Some moves such as Dark Pulse and Crunch will help the Dark-type to get the job done quickly; however, some Pokémon will require using status effect attacks and moves of other typings to fully defeat all the enemies that stand in their way. Luckily Dark-type Pokémon are famous for having diverse possibilities for moves that make them very powerful.
10 Scrafty - High Jump Kick, Protect, Crunch, Head Smash
Scrafty is the Pokémon incarnation of a fighter, and it requires a diverse set of moves to fully utilize its powerful potential. Scrafty can use both Fighting-type and Dark-type attacks within this moveset, and it also allows for a Rock-type attack as well.
Scrafty will also be capable of protecting itself using the move Protect, and that will be beneficial against very powerful moves such as Hydro Pump and Solar Beam. When using the powerful Dark-type Scrafty, fans can’t go wrong with this set of moves.
9 Darkrai - Hypnosis, Drain Punch, Dark Pulse, Feint Attack
Darkrai is one of the most iconic mythical creatures in the franchise to be introduced as of right now, and many fans enjoy using it because of its distinct appearance and powerful Dark-type attacks.
As such, fans will want to use a moveset such as this one that will utilize many different attacks to build a powerful arsenal. Attacks such as Hypnosis will put the enemy to sleep, and moves such as Dark Pulse will bring an enemy’s HP down all the way to zero.
8 Houndoom - Crunch, Feint Attack, Flamethrower, Inferno
Houndoom is one of the strongest Johto Pokémon because of its strong Fire-/Dark-typing and an interesting possibility for moves.
The best way to use Houndoom will be to focus on mainly Fire- and Dark-type attacks because those are the hardest hitters that Houndoom has in its arsenal. Mixing moves such as Crunch and Inferno will allow for a fiery yet dark combination that will blow any Pokémon away.
7 Greninja - Water Shuriken, Hydro Pump, Night Slash, Gunk Shot
Greninja is a fan-favorite starter Pokémon from Generation VI, and fans can’t get enough of it because of its ninja theme but also because of its very strong dual-typing that allows for many different combinations.
This moveset will take full advantage of both Greninja’s Water- and Dark-typing and will also use a Poison-type move as well in the form of Gunk Shot. Fans can’t go wrong with a diverse moveset like this one for Greninja.
6 Umbreon - Dark Pulse, Assurance, Double-Edge, Confuse Ray
Umbreon is one of the Eeveelutions that was introduced with the Johto region in Generation II. Fans were glad to see that Eevee eventually got a Dark-type evolution, and with the powerful Pokémon comes a host of Dark-type attacks as well as many other moves of different typings.
This moveset will use mostly Dark- and Normal-type attacks such as Dark Pulse and Double-Edge but will also add a Confuse Ray in for a status effect. If fans want to use Umbreon to its full potential, then they should use at least one status effect move with a Normal- and a Dark-type attack as well.
5 Weavile - Fling, Dark Pulse, Ice Punch, Rest
Weavile is a dual Ice-/Dark-type that fans can use if they’re looking for a Pokémon that is less conventional than the typical Dark-type. Weavile can employ both attacks that deal damage but also moves that add different effects to the battle.
With this moveset, trainers of Weavile will be able to put their Pokémon to sleep to restore health and also use Dark-type and Ice-type attacks that will take out even the most powerful Grass-type Pokémon with ease.
4 Guzzlord - Belch, Thrash, Dragon Rush, Crunch
Guzzlord is a strong Ultra Beast that is known for its unique Dragon-/Dark-typing. Because Guzzlord has such high stats and its unique dual-typing, it can employ a lot of different varieties of moves that most creatures wouldn’t be able to combine into one moveset.
Crunch and Dragon Rush are just a few of the moves that Guzzlord can use if it wants to win a battle with little effort. A moveset such as this one will utilize the full damage output that Guzzlord is capable of because of its moves and different typings.
3 Sharpedo - Poison Fang, Night Slash, Hydro Pump, Skull Bash
Sharpedo is similar to Greninja in its dual-typing, and as such, it can use both Water- and Dark-type attacks that will destroy its enemy from many different angles and elements.
Players should also include Poison-type or another type of attack to diversify the moveset a bit in case Sharpedo goes up against an enemy that can’t be easily affected by Water- or Dark-type moves. Hydro Pump and Night Slash are two of the best moves to teach Sharpedo for players that need to deal a lot of damage at once.
2 Tyranitar - Giga Impact, Iron Defense, Dark Pulse, Stone Edge
Tyranitar is a massive Pokémon in size, and with that size comes high stats that will deal more damage than most other Pokémon of a similar type. An interesting move to add to a Tyranitar’s moveset would be Iron Defense because it will make the defense of the Pokémon even higher than it already is.
For offensive moves, players should use Giga Impact, Stone Edge, and Dark Pulse because all three of these moves offer a large amount of damage and have a high hit chance. Including at least one stat-affecting move such as Iron Defense is crucial for the powerful Tyranitar’s full potential.
1 Hydreigon - Outrage, Dragon Rush, Hyper Beam, Beat Up
Hydreigon is a Dragon-/Dark-type Pokémon that is one of the strongest creatures that was introduced with Generation V. It is known as a pseudo-legendary Pokémon because it’s stats are so high, and its moveset consists of such powerful attacks.
With this in mind, players should make sure to use attacks such as Hyper Beam and Outrage for high damage output to swiftly take down any enemy that stands in the trainer’s way. Stat-affecting moves aren’t crucial for Hydreigon because it can deal so much damage through just one attack.
