Dragon-type Pokémon are loved by so many medieval fans and they’re also one of the most powerful types in the series. Many Dragon-types are extremely strong and have large moveset s full of every type of attack. Unsurprisingly, they have been one of the most popular types ever since Generation I’s Dragonite!

Although many people love these majestic creatures, there is still a lot about Dragon-type Pokémon that is unknown. From the tiniest dragon to powerful Dragon-type items, here are 10 things about Dragon-type Pokémon that most players aren’t aware of!

10 Tiniest Dragon-type

Goomy is a Dragon-type Pokémon that first appeared within the Kalos region. This Pokémon has been labeled one of the weakest Dragon-types and for good reason, because its stats are ridiculously low.

For a Pokémon labeled the weakest, it makes sense that Goomy would also be extremely tiny. Goomy is the smallest Dragon-type Pokémon in the franchise and although it is very weak in its initial form, once it reaches its final evolution, Goomy becomes a dragon to be feared!

9 Highest Speed Stat

Surprisingly, Mega Sceptile is the fasted Dragon-type in the games. Its speed is 145, which is quite impressive considering Sceptile doesn’t even have wings.

Sceptile has always been a speedy Pokémon but its mega evolution takes things to a whole new level. Hopefully, Mega Sceptile will appear in more future Pokémon games but only time will tell.

8 Limited Movepool

Dragon-type Pokémon have very powerful attacks, however, the flip side of this is that they also have very few moves in their arsenal. As of Generation VIII, Dragon-type Pokémon have only 13 attacks that are also of the Dragon-typing.

This is shocking information because no other Pokémon type has as low an amount of moves in it. For the sake of Dragon-type trainers, hopefully, more moves are introduced in the future. However, that does not seem likely.

7 Lightest Dragon-type

While there are many Pokémon that are themed after a food item, most of them are either Grass-types or one of the lower power typings. Applin is a little apple Pokémon that also happens to be a little Dragon and it is extremely lightweight.

It’s not a giant surprise to learn that Applin doesn’t weigh much because it is just an apple, however, for a Dragon-type, this Pokémon weighs next to nothing. Trainers should catch this Pokémon if they’re looking for a Dragon-type that is on the cuter side.

6 Dragons Are powerful Against Themselves

Dragon-type Pokémon are known to be powerful in battle and other dragons are not excluded from facing their wrath. Dragon-type moves are super effective against other Dragon-types because there aren’t many types that would be powerful enough to defeat a giant dragon. As it turns out, dragons have the power to fight others of their kind.

Dragon-types possess the ability to defeat other dragons because the mythical typing had to have at least a few weaknesses. The developers probably wanted to display their great strength by stating that only a Dragon-type could take down another Dragon during battle.

5 Most Items That Boost Power

Every Pokémon type has a few items that members of that group can hold to become stronger. Dragon-types have the most items at their disposal that can help them become a foe to be feared.

The Dragon Fang item is just one example of the seven items that Dragon-types can hold to become even more powerful than they already are. Considering how few moves this typing can use, at least Dragons in the Pokémon world get all these amazing items.

4 Weak Against Steel-type Pokemon

This will come as a surprise to casual fans because it is not a well-known type matchup at all. The reason that Steel-types happen to be resistant to the awesome Dragon power has to do with the concept of armored knights.

In legends, armored knights would get into conflicts with powerful Dragon creatures. Therefore, the developers thought that it would be fitting to make Steel-Types resistant to Dragon-type attacks. Perhaps more Pokémon should wear steel armor.

3 Highest Attack Stat

Many Dragon-types have very high attack stats because of their incredible ancient power. However, one Pokémon has both the highest attack and special attack stat in the Dragon-Typing. This amazing Pokémon is Mega Rayquaza.

Although its normal form is also very powerful, Rayquaza’s mega evolution is insane in terms of power. Its attack stat is a whopping 180 and any Pokémon that isn’t hardy won’t be able to take too many hits from this mega legendary.

2 Lowest Level Evolution

Gible is a tiny shark-themed Pokémon that evolves into its first evolution when it hits the low level of 24. This is the lowest level that any Dragon-type can evolve at and it is quite high when compared to Pokémon of other types.

Most three-stage evolution Pokémon evolve into their second stage around levels 10-20, but the Dragon-type changes that formula. Gabite then involves into Garchomp at level 48.

1 Only 12 Pokemon Are Pure Dragon-types

Although Dragon-types are extremely strong, they often rely on other non-Dragon moves to fight their opponents. Because of this, many Dragons also have a secondary typing that aids them in battle by giving them a diverse moveset that many trainers will have trouble battling against.

Pure Dragon-type Pokémon are a rarity. For the most part, this is a good thing as their pure typing, unfortunately, makes them weaker as battling Pokémon. Players should still think about catching one of these but they probably won’t run into them often because there are only 12 pure Dragons in the franchise.
