Gloom is a Pokémon that has been around since generation 1, and that makes it one of the oldest Grass-type Pokémon in the franchise. This Pokémon is a middle evolution; however, it is very powerful because of its dual typing and move set that gives it some of the strongest Grass-type and Poison-type attacks that the franchise has ever seen.
Players can employ Gloom in every Pokémon game to defeat enemies of the Water-type. Fans love Gloom, and there are so many things that they don’t yet know about this interesting and beautiful creature.
10 Male And Female Gender Difference
Every Gloom has a flower on its head, but depending on its gender will determine the number of petals that it has. Female Gloom will have only one petal, and male Gloom will have a total of four petals on its flower.
This is a very distinct gender difference, and fans will be able to immediately tell just by looking at the top of its head. Most fans of Gloom aren’t aware of its distinct gender difference, and as such, this is a fact that most players never learned.
9 Gloom’s Honey Smells Terrible
Gloom has honey that seeps out of its mouth, and it stinks very badly. It is said that one in a thousand people are immune to this and actually enjoy sniffing this peculiar honey; however, most people will hate the stench of glooms secretion.
This is probably because of the biological makeup of the honey itself, and fans aren’t completely sure when it’s made of; however, it is evident that it is made up of nothing nice.
8 Gloom Is One Of The Two Pokémon That Can Evolve Into Two Separate Evolutions While Requiring An Evolutionary Stone For Both
Gloom can evolve into two different Pokémon, Bellossom and Vileplume. Both of these Pokémon are quite powerful, and they both require an evolutionary stone to evolve.
Fans will find that Eevee shares this trait; however they are the only two Pokémon that do, and there hasn’t been another one introduced since generation 1. this is a cool tidbit about Gloom that most fans didn’t know because it is quite an exclusive trait that this Grass-type has.
7 Gloom Weights About 20 Pounds On Average
Gloom weighs more than it looks, coming in at about 20 lb. Most fans would expect Gloom to be around 5 to 12 pounds just based on its appearance and the fact that it looks like it would generally be light on the inside.
It would be difficult for a child trainer to pick a Gloom up, which is why it is so weird that this tiny Pokémon is as heavy as it is. It’s interesting that Gloom ways this much and also to note, Gloom stands at around 2 ft tall.
6 Gloom’s Shiny Form Is Green
Gloom has a green shiny form, and most fans aren’t aware of this beautiful recoloring. There are a lot of Pokémon from Kanto that have less than satisfying shiny forms, and this is probably because their forms were added after generation 1 was introduced.
Gloom is one of the only Pokémon from Generation 1 that has a very different looking shiny form as it changes from a purple color to a green color. This is a major difference, and fans will spot it immediately after seeing a shiny Gloom.
5 Gloom Is The Only Dual-Type In The Franchise That Has An Evolution With A Single Type
Bellossom is a Grass-type, while Gloom is a Grass/Poison-type. Gloom loses its dual typing when it evolves into a Bellossom, and fans have wondered why Bellossom doesn’t have a secondary type.
It is quite peculiar that Gloom is the only Pokémon that has an evolution with a single type, and fans wonder why this may be. Bellossom could gain the Fairy-typing or the Bug-typing as its secondary type, based on its appearance.
4 The Origin Of The Name “Gloom”
Most fans assume that the name Gloom just means the word “gloom” however, it is theorized that it also is based on the word “Bloom.”
This would make sense because bloom rhymes with Gloom, and it also describes an action that a flower can take, and there is a flower found in Gloom’s design. It is very likely that this is the origin of its name, and these two words work perfectly to form a beautiful rhyming combination.
3 Gloom’s Signature Smell Is Only Released When It Is In Danger
Gloom has a very distinct smell, as previously mentioned, and it will only be released into the air when this Pokémon is in danger. Trainers shouldn’t attempt to anger Gloom because they will be sprayed with this disgusting smell, and that will be one of the most unpleasant experiences that any trainer in the Pokémon world can have.
This ability is probably used to fend off predators in the wild and also to fend off evil trainers such as Team Rocket.
2 Petal Dance Was Previously Gloom’s Signature Move
Many players know pedal dance as a very powerful Grass-type move, and it was actually previously only learnable by Gloom and its evolutionary line. In generation 2, this was changed so that more Pokémon could learn this powerful attack; however, for all of Generation 1, Gloom was the only Pokémon that can learn it along with its evolutions.
A lot of Pokemon that aren’t either starter or legendary creatures never get a signature move, and it is fascinating that Gloom got one for itself. It would be nice to see more signature moves for Pokémon in the future; however, this is unlikely because it would take so much time to create in-game.
1 Gloom’s Honey Is Very Sticky
Gloom secretes honey, and it is very sticky compared to other substances within the Pokémon world. Any trainer that gets stuck to Gloom’s honey will be in for a surprise when it doesn’t easily come off.
It is unfortunate that this ability has not been shown in the anime or video games specifically because it would make a great plot, especially for an anime episode. Gloom could be captured by Team Rocket and use its ability to make its enemies stick to walls or other surfaces. This fact about Gloom is not well-known and very interesting!
