In generation seven, Game Freak calmed down a bit with the Legendary Pokémon and only released 11 of them, well, besides the mythical Pokémon and the 47 Ultra Beasts, but that’s beside the point. Today, we’re going to be taking a look at just the Legendary Pokémon, and ranking them. Alola’s offerings were quite different as Legendary Pokémon could actually evolve in this generation, so there’s a lot to get into. Let’s jump in.

10 Cosmoem

Cosmoem is lowest on this list because, well, its literally just a cocoon. This thing has no personality besides literally waiting to become a different Pokémon. Being shockingly heavy despite being woefully small is not a personality trait, Cosmoem. Get some talent, next.

9 Type: Null And Sivally

Poor Type: Null was created by Aether in order to combat any UBs that would come to earth, it was simply never given a fair shot at life. This is why Gladion actually breaks in to steal one of the Type: Null, in an act of kindness. Type: Null can evolve into Sivally through friendship, and the two can hold different memories in order to change their typing.

8 Tapu Bulu

All of the Tapus are guardians of the various islands of Alola, and nosering here is the guardian of Ula’ula Island. Tapu Bulu is a Grass-type Legendary (all of the Tapus are also Fairy-type), and honestly, the reason that it is the lowest of Tapus on the list is because it’s ugly.

Why does it have a nosering? Why is its… hat… like that? Why is Tapu Bulu the way it is? How unfortunate.

7 Tapu Koko

Tapu Koko is the Electric-type guardian of Melemele Island. It’s quite prevalent in the plot of Sun & Moon, appearing twice over the course of the story. Its design isn’t as bad as Bulu’s, it honestly is pretty solid.

Still, the other Tapus have a better design than Koko, and personalities, as Koko is a guardian that spends half its time looking for a reason to hate the residents of Alola. Wonderful.

6 Solgaleo

Solgaleo is the cover legendary of Pokémon Sun, and it certainly is the lesser of the two when it comes to design. While Solgaleo and Lunala share many design traits with one another, Lunala just does everything better, Solgaleo just leaves something to be desired, which is why it takes such a low spot on this list.

5 Cosmog

Cosmog is the unevolved form of Cosmoem, destined to become either Solgaleo or Lunala depending on the version of the game that you’re playing. It’s quite the cute Pokémon, full of energy and happiness. Its spacey design really draws upon many of the elements of generation seven, and overall, Cosmog is an awesome Legendary.

4 Lunala

Lunala is the cover Legendary of Pokémon Moon, and it has a pretty interesting design, unlike what we’ve seen from other cover legendaries in the past. It very much so embodies the idea of Pokémon Moon, but, another Pokémon that we’ll get to later takes Lunala’s design to another level.

3 Tapu Fini

Tapu Fini is the best-designed Pokémon of the Guardian Deitys, easily winning due to its somewhat mystic and mysterious nature. The purples and blues work incredibly well together as well. Tapu Fini is known to control oceans and other bodies of water, hiding away in thick fog, adding to its already mysterious design. Just like the other Tapus, it can be incredibly dangerous if angered in any way. These very interesting personality traits and design qualities are what earned Tapu Fini its high ranking on this list.

2 Necrozma

Necrozma is an absolutely fantastic Pokémon, going from place to place in order to steal light, which is what powers it. While it used to be able to give light to others, it was injured and now needs to hunt it down in order to survive. Necrozma has four different forms, including an Ultra form and two different forms it takes after merging with Solgaleo and Lunala, both of which look better than their original base designs. Necrozma’s backstory is also incredibly detailed and far too hard to explain here, but let’s just say that it’s an incredible Pokémon that deserves a ton of praise, and tears, the poor thing. However, there is simply one Alola Legendary that cannot be defeated.

1 Tapu Lele

Tapu Lele is the pink Psychic-type guardian of Akala Island. Despite Tapu Lele’s adorable appearance, it is said to be incredibly cruel, even though it has healing properties that it can use as it sees fit.

The dichotomy between its design and incredible cruelness is pretty great, but the fact that it feels absolutely no guilt about how horrible it is what earns it a spot at No. 1 on the list. Absolutely terrible with no guilt whatsoever. Akala is literally in danger when being protected by this beast. How iconic. While Tapu Lele’s design is quite good, its fantastic backstory of pure cruelty is what earns it the top spot on this list. Keep being terrifying Lele, you’re doing just great.
