If you haven’t had a chance to add Galar Pokémon to your Pokémon GO collection, you’re in luck, as 7k eggs will hatch certain Galarian and Alolan Pokémon until further notice even after the Throwback Challenge Champion 2020 event ends on June 8.
The Throwback Challenge Champion 2020 event has been running since May 1, 2020, with each installment lasting about a week. The event invites trainers to complete certain research tasks in exchange for exclusive rewards and rare Pokémon. Its current rendition is the event’s fifth installment, but trainers will only be able to access the event tasks if they’ve fully completed the previous four challenge tasks, which respectively celebrate the Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, and Sinnoh regions.
While this challenge doesn’t represent Alola and Galar, players can acquire Pokémon with region-specific forms by completing tasks. Rewards include Rare Candies, Genesect, Galarian Meowth, and Galarian Stunfisk encounters, as well as Professor Willow’s glasses as a cosmetic item for their avatar.
Trainers who have yet to complete any of the research tasks from previous challenges will still be able to access and complete them at their leisure. However, that they will not be able to complete any tasks for the current challenge unless they’ve fully completed the tasks for all four challenges. According to an announcement by Niantic, being behind on the challenges will not lock trainers out of receiving region-exclusive Pokémon forever.
After this round of the Challenge Champion ends, 7km eggs will hatch Alolan Sandshrew, Vulpix, Diglett, Meowth, Geodude, and Grimer. The eggs will also hatch Galarian Meowth, Zigzagoon, Darumaka, and Stunfisk. While Niantic’s announcement implies that this will be a limited-time phenomenon, it also doesn’t state a concrete end date, which means that trainers will presumably be able to get their hands on the Alolan and Galarian forms by hatching eggs for the foreseeable future. However, the announcement also seems to imply that this phenomenon will be limited to eggs received as gifts.
Niantic encourage trainers to follow local health guidelines while playing Pokémon GO. For those hoping to get as much challenge time in as possible, the Trainer Challenge Champion event will end June 8th at 1 pm local time.
