A new set of Strange Scraps obtained from Team GO Rocket shows the Pokémon villains capturing Victini.

Pokémon GO’s annual GO Fest is almost upon us. The marquee weekend of the game’s calendar will take place on July 25 and 26 but will be unlike any GO Fest that has happened before. Due to the pandemic, thousands of trainers aren’t able to gather together for GO Fest in designated cities. Instead, it will be a worldwide event to which any trainer can buy a ticket.

GO Fest 2020 is now only a couple of days away, and preparation for the event is really starting to ramp up. The final timed-research building to GO Fest comes to an end later today. The final clue of the GO Fest Puzzle drops later today and might have actually already been released by the time you read this. What’s more, a fresh set of Strange Scraps has surfaced.

A few weeks ago, Team Leaders and Professor Willow highlighted some scraps of paper they had found. When pieced together, the Scraps showed what Team GO Rocket had planned. The game’s villains were planning an assault via hot air balloon, an assault that is still in full swing. The newest Strange Scraps have revealed that this weekend, Rocket will up its game.

Unlike the last sets of Scraps, the dots here are not difficult to connect. They reveal that GO Rocket has caught the mythical Pokémon Victini, and it plans on using it to defeat trainers. Victini is yet to make its Pokémon GO debut, but it now seems nailed on that trainers will get their very first chance to catch the psychic/fire-type this weekend during GO Fest 2020.

Victini’s imminent arrival to Pokémon GO might be exciting, but it is not a surprise. It was revealed during a Pokémon Presents last month that Victini would be joining the game during GO Fest, it just wasn’t clear how exactly the Pokémon would be introduced. Victini is special enough that releasing it into the wild or stuffing it into 5 km eggs without any pomp or circumstance isn’t good enough. Being the focal point of the most unique GO Fest ever is an event worthy of a debut.
