The current season of the Pokémon anime is finally leaving Japan, and new dubbed episodes will be streamed exclusively on Netflix in June.
The latest season of the Pokémon anime is currently being broadcast in Japan, though the production of new episodes has halted due to COVID-19. The series is currently going in a new direction. After winning the Pokémon League in Alola, Ash Ketchum is now traveling the Pokémon world alongside a boy named Goh, who wants to complete the Pokédex. Ash isn’t going on a standard journey through the Galar region as he might have in previous years, though Leon from Pokémon Sword & Shield does have a prominent role in the show. The current iteration of the series is called Pocket Monsters in Japan.
The new series of the Pokémon anime is coming to the West through Netflix. According to The Hollywood Reporter, this Pocket Monsters season will be called Pokémon Journeys: The Series and the first twelve episodes will be broadcast on June 12, 2020. Netflix has secured a deal with The Pokémon Company to be the sole distributor of the new episodes of the Pokémon anime for the foreseeable future.
The Pocket Monsters anime has broadcast 22 episodes in Japan and promotional footage has been released of three more episodes. It’s unclear how long production on the show will be delayed for, or how long it will take for the English dub to catch up to the episodes that have already been aired in Japan.
The Pokémon anime has been going in an exciting new direction, and many fans have been eager to catch the new episodes in English. Netflix has already snagged the remake of the first Pokémon movie and several seasons of the anime can be streamed in many countries around the world on the service, so it’s a natural fit that the latest episodes be broadcast there.
