The rumor mill is circulating again, and it seems like generation four Pokémon might still be on hold, you know, as they have been for years, as whispers of a Let’s Go Johto are on everyone’s minds. Whether or not these games will actually happen is to be seen, but if they do come to fruition, here are ten features that we would love to see from the games.
10 Following Pokémon
Recently re-introduced in Pokémon Sword & Shield’s Isle of Armor expansion, following Pokémon are must-have if Let’s Go Johto games do happen. The feature was a great aspect of the original Let’s Go games that fans were super happy to see return, and continue to love every time that it does return, so seeing the same thing happen in Let’s Go Johto just makes sense. Please us, Game Freak.
9 Overworld Pokémon
The more Pokémon we can see on-screen, the better. Overworld encounters seem to be here to stay as of late, but let’s just double confirm that they need to be present in Let’s Go Johto. They make the universe feel much more alive, as the routes are bursting with activity from every direction. Let’s keep that feeling going as we run around with our Pichus and Marills, or whoever they decide to make the box art cutie.
8 Kanto Postgame
The Kanto postgame that is present in all the Johto games shouldn’t be too hard to bring back in Let’s Go Johto, as they literally just built Kanto from the ground up recently, plop it in and spruce it up a bit, you’re set.
This would be a perfect way to keep the games feeling full of content while also bringing back another fan-favorite feature, multiple regions in a single game. They did it on the original Game Boy, so the Switch shouldn’t be too much of a stretch.
7 Other Real Postgame Content
The original Let’s Go games have some very barebones postgame content, it’s there, but overall, the game is pretty dead once the main story has been completed. Hopefully, Let’s Go Johto would have a little more to do beyond completing Kanto. Sure, the Let’s Go games are designed to be a bit more streamlined, but that doesn’t mean that they have to have less content. More postgame content would encourage people to keep playing, and buy sequels when they release!
6 Co-Op
The drop-in drop-out co-op featured in Let’s Go was absolutely great. While it made the gameplay way too easy (which could be balanced by converting battles fought with a partner into double battles), it was so great to have a friend pop-in and join you whenever you felt like it. We’ve only ever seen this happen once in Pokémon history, so seeing it return would be a real treat.
5 Difficulty Options
If the Let’s Go games are really designed to get new players into the series, then why not add difficult options to the game?
Easy mode could be just like the original Let’s Go games, and higher difficulties could re-introduce battle mechanics from the main series, bump up levels, strengthen the AI, and overall give veteran players a reason to purchase the games. Giving players of every skill level a reason to pick-up the games is not at all a bad idea.
4 Breeding
Breeding was one of the many mechanics that got the ax in the original Let’s Go games. There really wasn’t a reason for this to happen, so seeing the feature come back in our currently fictional games would be nice to see. Besides, there are so many baby Pokémon in the Johto Dex that breeding pretty much has to come back in order for them to be obtainable in-game.
3 Mega Evolution
Mega Evolution has had a weird track record recently. It’s in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon DX, it isn’t in Sword & Shield, and it is in the first Let’s Go games. There’s no telling if the feature will be coming back in the future, things are very unclear. However, this is one of the best battle gimmicks in recent memory, so seeing it make a return in the next set of Let’s Go games would be great.
2 Animation Improvements
Look, of course, all of the animations that are sub-par in the series aren’t going to be fixed in a Let’s Go title of all things, but some improvements here and there would be awesome. Maybe we fix that… cute little thing where people rotate in place when they want to turn… rather than just turning like a normal person. That would be a great little change that would go a long way. Fixes in that department would be nice to see.
1 A Great Soundtrack
We haven’t visited the Johto Region in some time, the last time that we were there was in the DS era. Hearing all of the remastered Johto tunes will be fantastic for long-time players. Let’s hope that they’re done justice, and sound just as good now as they did all those years ago.
