There are many important aspects of battling in any Pokémon game, including stats, Abilities, Natures, and movesets. In order for a Pokémon to perform to the best of their ability, it’s imperative for them to have the most optimal moves and attacks available in battle. While each Pokémon will learn new moves by leveling up, there are also specific moves that can only be learned with the help of TMs.
TMs, or Technical Machines, can be found all throughout the Kanto Region in Pokémon Let’s Go. Whether they’re hidden away on a route, given as a reward, or sold at a store, the best TMs can be easily tracked down with the help of this guide.
10 TM55 Ice Beam: Seafoam Islands
Caves in the Pokémon franchise are known to be tough to navigate through without a map or guide. As the spot where the legendary Articuno resides, the Seafoam Islands are filled with icy caves and puzzles that make it easy to get lost in. If the player manages to explore every nook and cranny, they will eventually find the TM for Ice Beam.
Ice Beam is an excellent and reliable attack for not only Ice-types but also many Water-types. To counter their Grass and Flying weaknesses, Water-types would be able to effectively fight back with a powerful Ice-type attack like Ice Beam.
9 TM32 Dazzling Gleam: Route 12
Despite being an area known for its fishing spots, Route 12 is where the Fairy-type Dazzling Gleam can be found. If the player visits one of the homes on that route and finds a man named Mr. Dazzling, they will be given Dazzling Gleam as a gift.
Dazzling Gleam is one of the best special Fairy-type attacks in the game with the capability of targeting all enemies at once. It especially comes in handy during tough Double Battles.
8 TM49 Superpower: Victory Road
After collecting all eight Gym Badges and before one can take on the Elite Four, they must make their way through Victory Road. Within Victory Road, there are tough trainers to fight, the legendary Moltres to catch, and great items like TM49 to pick up along the way.
With the Fighting-type Superpower, the user can deal massive physical damage. The only downside is that it will lower the Attack and Defense of the user after the move is executed.
7 TM43 Shadow Ball: Celadon City
Celadon City is one of the largest cities in the Kanto Region. There, the player will find a giant department store that sells everything from Poké Balls to TMs. One of the TMs that are sold there is Shadow Ball.
As a powerful special Ghost-type attack, Shadow Ball is perfect for some of the strongest Generation I Pokémon like Gengar and Alakazam. With their high Special Attack stat, Shadow Ball will no doubt do massive damage to any opponent.
6 TM21 Foul Play: Pokémon Mansion
The Pokémon Mansion on Cinnabar Island is an abandoned area where Pokémon, researchers, and burglars gather. Perhaps the burglars are after valuable items with the mansion such as TM21, Foul Play.
Foul Play is a unique move that is not based on the user’s own Attack stat. Rather, it takes into account the opponent’s Attack stat, dealing more damage the stronger the opponent is. This makes it possible for a physically weak Pokémon to take down a much stronger one.
5 TM40 Psychic: Saffron City
Saffron City is home to the Psychic-type specialist and Gym Leader, Sabrina. Although Sabrina will give the player the TM for Calm Mind after defeating her, an even better TM in Psychic can be found in the city outside of the Gym.
In one of the houses in Saffron City, a generous man will give the player the TM for Psychic. Psychic is naturally one of the most powerful and reliable Psychic-type moves to have in the game without any drawbacks.
4 TM11 Will-O-Wisp: Viridian City
Although it is where the eighth and final Gym is, Viridian City is one of the first areas that the player will pass through in Let’s Go. There, the player can make use of the Secret Technique, Chop Down, to find the TM for Will-O-Wisp.
Will-O-Wisp might not be a powerful attacking move, but its effect can surely cripple an opponent. By leaving the foe with a burn, Will-O-Wisp not only does residual damage each turn but also cuts the opponent’s attack in half.
3 TM22 Rock Slide: Pokémon Mansion
Along with Foul Play, the TM for Rock Slide can also be found within the Pokémon Mansion on Cinnabar Island.
Rock Slide has not only a lot of power behind it but also other features about it that make it one of the most valuable attacks in the game. While it will target both opponents in a Double Battle, there is also the potential for one or both of the targets to flinch and not be able to move for that turn.
2 TM41 Earthquake: Viridian City
The final Gym before heading off to Victory Road is in Viridian City. There, the player must defeat the infamous Giovanni, who serves as both the Viridian City Gym Leader and the boss of Team Rocket.
As a Gym Leader who specializes in Ground-type Pokémon, Giovanni will reward the player with the TM for Earthquake after he is defeated. With a base power of 100, Earthquake is easily one of the best physical attacks to have in the game.
1 TM29 Scald: Cerulean City
The second Gym Leader that the player will face in Let’s Go is Misty at the Cerulean City Gym. To match the Water-type theme of the Gym, Misty will give the player TM29, Scald, as a reward for defeating her.
Unlike the average Water-type attack, Scald has a secondary effect that is too great to pass up on. With a 30% chance, Scald may burn the target on top of dishing out a lot of damage with its 80 base power.
