Hidden Techniques are special moves that can be taught to a player’s starter Pokémon in Pokémon Let’s Go Pikachu & Eevee. These moves function as Hidden Machines, more commonly known as HMs from the older Pokémon games, allowing these Pokémon to cut down trees, fly to different areas, push over boulders and so on.

It’s important to know where to grab these special moves in order to ensure progress and to access secret areas. To cut down on the amount of searching a player would have to do this guide will point them in the direction of where they need to go for these important abilities.

5 Chop Down

This Hidden Technique is located on the S.S. Anne docked in the port of Vermilion City. The player will gain access to this luxury cruise liner in Cerulean City before even arriving in Vermilion. There are multiple floors to explore and trainers to fight making it a mini dungeon of sorts with Hidden Technique Chop Down being the primary reward.

At the end of it all is the Ship Captain. This gentleman has an upset stomach the player can assist with. Once he feels better the Captain will teach the player’s starterChop Down and show how to use it. This move is used in many areas through out the game to access secret places so players will want to revisit old towns and routes to see what they can find.

A good example of a spot player should check out is in Pewter City near the Pokémon Museum. Players can use Chop Down to access the Diglett Tunnel to reach Pewter City and cut down the tree near the Museum. This will grant access to a scientist that will gift the Amber Fossil to the player.

4 Light Up

Light Up is also located near Vermillion City. Just outside of the city limits is Diglett’s Cave that leads back to the earlier areas of the game. Outside of this Cave is a small hut with one of Professor Oak’s assistants standing nearby.

This individual will take the player into the cave and demonstrate how the Hidden Technique works to light up dark places. Once they’re confident the player knows how to use the move they’ll hand it over. It’s not the most utilized Hidden Technique on the list but it does make certain areas like the

Rock Tunnel less annoying.

3 Sky Dash

This is arguably one of the most useful Hidden Techniques in the game as it allows the player to travel anywhere they’ve previously visited whenever they want to. This Technique is located in Celadon City at the Gaming Corner. There’s a secret entrance to the Rocket’s secret Hideout that requires Chop Down to access.

The Hideout is like the S.S. Anne in that it’s full of trainers to face before being able to progress further. The player needs to defeat all members of Team Rocket including the leader Giovanni. When leaving the Hideout the player will encounter a man with a flying machine. After agreeing to keep his presence a secret he’ll teach the player’s Pokémon Sky Dash. This makes revisiting old areas to catch missed Pokémon, explore new areas with new Hidden Techniques, and more so much easier to do.

2 Sea Skim

Sea Skim is located inside of the Safari Zone in Fuchsia City. Once gaining access the player needs to scout around until they find a small pond with a man holding a surfboard and a Lapras lounging nearby. This friendly individual will demonstrate how Sea Skim works and teach the move to the player’s starter Pokémon.

This move is useful for catching more water Pokémon as it turns water areas essentially into grass patches, but it’s true worth won’t be realized until later areas like Cinnabar Island. It can be used to find the legendary bird Aritcuno in those islands and Zapdos in the Power Plant in the northeast corner of the game.

1 Strong Push

The last Hidden Technique is also found inside of Fuchsia City. This one lies with the Warden of the Safari Zone. Before speaking with him the player will need to face off against Team Rocket near the Pokémon Center. After a humorous encounter the player will obtain a Gold Tooth which can be given to the Warden.

In exchange for his tooth he’ll teach the player’s Pokémon Strong Push. It’s on par with Chop Down in terms of how often it’s used and is more important for the route leading to the Indigo Plateau at the end of the game.

At this point the player should have each of the five Hidden Techniques in the game which gives access to every secret and every corner. Players are advised to spend a little time revisiting old areas to see if they can access new places and gain beneficial rewards.
