Located on Melemele Island in Pokémon Sun & Moon, Ten Carat Hill is a great place to catch some powerful Pokémon. It’s a giant hollowed out hill that was formed by an active underwater volcano. As a result a variety of Rock, Ground, and Dark Pokémon can be found lurking around this area.

Once the player gains access, its important to know what Pokémon are available and the precise spots they can be encountered. It’s also important to know how to access the real prize, Necrozma.

10 Zubat

Players shouldn’t be surprised to learn that this place is lousy with Zubats. Inside both the Cave and Ocean Cave, players can stumble across these flying parasites. The Caves have a 30% chance of them appearing and will appear with levels between 10 and 13.

The best odds of coming across one is to Surf via Pokémon into the Ocean Cave. While doing this, Zubats have an 80% of appearing and will be stronger with levels between 15 and 18.

9 Alolan Diglett

The Alolan Diglett can be found in the main cave part of the map. It has a 20% chance of appearing and will be between the levels of 10 and 13. While 20% isn’t exactly rare it might take effort to come across one.

Alolan Diglett and it’s evolved form Alolan Dugtrio are not all that powerful from a PVP perspective. It does have good Speed and Attack but all other stats are garbage. This should be more of a Pokédex filler and players shouldn’t spend too much time chasing it down.

8 Roggenrola

The rocky Roggenrola can be found in the main cave of Ten Carat hill and in the Farthest Hollow. It has a 30% chance of making an appearance and will be between the levels of 10 and 13. Odds are the player will be tripping over these more often than not.

From a competitive standpoint Roggenrola’s final form Gigalith actually has some use. It has a high Defense and Attack with decent HP. It’s Speed is abysmal however meaning it’s meant to be a meat shield more than anything else. Still, it’s not a bad option until the player finds something better.

7 Carbink

Carbink is a strange Rock/Fairy type that players can find in the main cave and the Farthest Hollow. It has a 20% chance of showing up and will be a level somewhere between 10 and 13.

It has great Defense and Special Defense, but horrible stats in everything else. It’s not entirely useless as it has access to Trick Room which can throw off opponents, but that’s kind of it. The player should grab one for collection purposes and move on.

6 Psyduck

Psycuck is the only other Pokémon apart from Zubat that will appear when the player is Surfing in the Ocean Cave. There’s a 20% chance it will appear meaning the player will have to fend off quite a few Zubats. It’ll be leveled somewhere between 15 and 18.

It’s evolved form, Golduck, is a bit mediocre thanks to its average stats. There’s nothing inherently wrong with it as it has access to powerful water moves. But it just can’t hold it’s own against stronger Pokémon. The player could use one for low level PVE fights, but mid-game they should look for something else.

5 Deino

Deino is the last Pokémon the player will find in the Cave area and there is only one to be found. The player must perform an Island Scan on Tuesday for it to show up. The player only has one chance to catch it so they need to make it count.

Deino evolves into Hydreigon a Dark/Dragon that’s great to have for PVP. It has a great balance of stats and makes for a strong special attacker. It may not be as fast as some high level PVP Pokémon, but it’ll hold its own in most fights.

4 Machop

Machop can be found in the Farthest Hollow section of the Ten Carat Hill. When wandering the grassy spots, it has a 30% of appearing and will be leveled between 10 and 13. This will be the most common Pokémon players find in this area.

It’s evolved form MAchamp has a great attack, but low speed. It can hit hard now and then but many Pokémon will quickly wear it down if the player isn’t careful. It’ll do fine in PVE so players can get away with keeping it for that.

3 Spinda

The quirky bear Spinda can be found stumbling around in the Farthest Hollow area. It has a rare 10% chance of appearing so players will have to be patient when hunting for this one. It’ll be leveled between 10 and 13.

Spinda’s stats are awful and it doesn’t evolve into anything making it a terrible fighter both in PVP and PVE. Patient and clever players might get some use out of it’s Trick Room capability, but most players should only get one for Pokédex reasons.

2 Rockruff

The adorable Rockruff can be found in the grassy spots of the Farthest Hollow and has a 20% chance of making an appearance. It’s level will be between 10 and 13.

Rockruff has two different evolution forms based on the game it’s caught in. Sun players will get Midday Lycanroc when it’s level up during the day and Moon players get Midnight Lycanroc when leveled at night. Neither are terribly strong fighters with the Midday being a bit faster and Midnight being a tad bulkier.

1 Necrozma

The real prize of Ten Carat Hill is the Necrozma lurking in the Farthest Hollow in the grass. It will only appear once the player has completed all Ultra Beast missions. Once done only one will appear and it’ll be a level 75.

This psychic legendary is a beast in PVE and sees use in PVP as a Calm Mind user that’s adaptable for various situations. It’s stats are well balanced and it has a variety of useful and devastating moves when used properly.
