With each new generation of the Pokémon franchise, character customization has become more accessible and refined. In the earlier generations, it was not possible to change aspects of the main character such as their gender, skin tone, clothing, and hairstyles.  Newer generations, however, have given players the power to customize their appearance as they travel across the region.

In particular, Sword & Shield features a lineup of chic and fresh hairstyles to choose from at the Galar Region’s local salons. While those haircuts all give the players some style and personality, options are limited. If more haircuts are ever to be added in any future DLC, these ten styles would surely make the cut.

10 Long & Wavy

One of the female hairstyles currently in the games is the Medium Curls look. However, it would also be nice to have a longer hairstyle with more natural waves. A good example of that is the Long & Wavy hairstyle from Gen VII’s Sun & Moon.

This hairstyle is very voluminous and will look great with any of the bang styles. It’s perfect for any player who wants to try a simple and classic look without taking a huge risk.

9 Short & Tousled

With a few exceptions, most of the male hairstyles of Sword & Shield are fairly smooth and straight. There is already a Medium & Wavy male hairstyle, but a shorter haircut with more texture would be cool too. The Short & Tousled hair from Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon would do just the trick.

Compared to the other male hairstyles already in the game, the Short & Tousled look is a lot more casual. It’s a ruffled look that appears effortless but not too messy.

8 Multi-Colored

Aside from how hair is styled, people can express themselves and stand out by dyeing their hair anywhere from natural and subtle to bright and bold shades. Sword & Shield offers the opportunity for the players to dye their hair and change up the color as often as they please. At the same time, there is not yet an option to have multi-colored hair.

Multi-colored hair has the potential to drastically change one’s appearance. On one hand, a subtle ombre could help bring a clean and polished look together. On the other hand, extreme contrast between a dark and light color can make a big fashion statement.

7 Extra Long

In today’s culture, it’s not uncommon for people to wear extensions, wigs, or weaves. These accessories allow people to embrace or try out different hairstyles and lengths, including long hair.

While there are long hair options for both male and female characters, the lengths could definitely still go longer. For players who want that extra length, there should be an option similar to extensions to satisfy that craving that would otherwise require a lot of time and patience to achieve.

6 Half Up

There are many Sword & Shield hairstyles with the hair up, and there are many with the hair down. Interestingly enough, however, there are no available hairstyles that are half up and half down for the female character.

A hairstyle that is half up allows the person to dress up their hair just a tad while also keeping everything out of their face. This would be perfect for trainers who want to look good while traveling on the go.

5 Bald

Having a full head of hair may be fun to play around with and style, but one of the most simple looks is to just go completely bald and embrace a head that is free of hair.

As something so simple, it’s surprising that there is no option to shave the player’s head at the Galar Region’s salons. Some trainers might be too busy catching Pokémon to bother with maintaining and styling their hair, so a bald look might be what’s easiest and best for them.

4 Mullet

If a trainer is stuck going back and forth between a shorter or longer haircut, it is possible for them to settle for something in the middle. The iconic mullet hairstyle is one that is short in the front and longer in the back for a look that is anything but boring.

Perhaps the mullet is not yet available at the Galar Region salons due to its infamous reputation of going in and out of fashion, but it would still be a great haircut option to have nonetheless.

3 Fishtail Braid

While there are braided hairstyles for both male and female characters, there is a specific type of braid that is missing from the salon options. Unlike the Braided Pigtails, the fishtail braid generally has a flatter appearance that is off to one side.

For players who are looking for a trendy albeit casual new hairstyle to try out, the fishtail braid would be a great fit if it were added into the local salons.

2 Sprout

For those with shorter hair, it might be difficult or impossible to pull all of their hair into a full ponytail. If they need a way to keep their hair out of their face, they might have to resort to a cute hairstyle that resembles a sprout.

Since shorter parts of their hair, such as bangs, are often too short to stay in a ponytail, it would be easier to tie up the short portion in the front to give the appearance of a sprout.

1 Space Buns

The Isle of Armor DLC came with a handful of new hairstyles including a Man Bun for the male character and a Messy Bun for the female character. However, there was a missed opportunity to also introduce the trendy and eye-catching space buns into the game.

Worn in pop culture by the likes of Princess Leia and Sailor Moon, space buns are a pair of two buns that add fun and personality to any trainer’s style.
