In Pokémon Sword & Shield there are a large number of Pokémon that can be caught in the Wild Area making it a great place to go hunting. What players will quickly learn is that there are certain Pokémon that will only appear during certain weather patterns.
There are a number of Pokémon that will appear specifically during Overcast Weather which occurs between February 15th and November 15th because of the Isle Of ArmorDLC. Here are all of the Pokémon that will make an appearance when the weather is Overcast.
12 Farfetch’d
Farfetch’d can be found wandering around Giant’s Mirror when the weather is Overcast. It has a 5% chance of appearing making it a rare find here. For PVP purposes it’s awful due to bad stats all around except for a mediocre Attack stat.
These same issues carry across into PVE, making it a tough choice. That being said, evolving it into a Sirfetch’d mitigates many of these issues and it turns into an effective wallbreaker. So it’s still worth picking up when the weather’s right.
11 Hitmonlee
During Overcast weather, Hitmonlee can be found in both the Dusty Bowl and Giant’s Mirror – Area 2. In both places it’s a rare encounter, appearing only 5% of the time. For PVP purposes Hitmonlee has the possibility of being useful. It’s a setup sweeper that can use Curse to boost Defense and Attack and then consume a White Herb to offset the loss of speed.
Problem is that it’ll struggle against anything with an advantage over Fighting-types and the loss of Speed is a major problem if it loses its White Herb. It can work in PVE, but this is largely a roster-building capture.
10 Hitmonchan
When the weather is Overcast Hitmonchan can be located in Dusty Bowl and Giant’s Mirror -Area 2. Like Hitmonlee it’s a rare encounter with only a 5% appearance rate. Hitmonchan is actually a decent fighter in PVP circles thanks to a variety of useful moves like Toxic, Rapid Spin, and Mach Punch.
It struggles in long drawn out fights due to lack of recovery moves apart from Drain Punch. Some players use it as a revenge killer. In PVE it’s a solid fighter with lots of versatility.
9 Espeon
Espeon is found wandering the Lake Of Outrage when the weather is Overcast. This is a great Pokémon to catch for PVP battles as it’s a great wallbreaker. It has great Special Attack and Speed with a hefty helping of Special Defense.
With the ability Magic Bounce to redirect status effects back on the enemy, Calm Mind to further boost Special Attack and Special Defense, and powerful moves like Shadow Ball and Psychic Espeon is a beast. Goes without saying this brutality carries over in PVE.
8 Corsola
Corsola is found in Overcast weather in Giant’s Mirror. Like others on this list, it’s a rare find thanks to a 5% appearance rate. This Pokémon is awful for PVP due to low stats and a weak Water/Rock typing.
In theory, it could be used to lay down Stealth Rock or inflict Toxic before jumping back and using Regenerator to recover health. An alternative is to drop the moves and then use Recover to let Toxic and Stealth Rock do damage as long as possible before it faints.
7 Hitmontop
Hitmontop appears in Overcast Weather at the Lake of Outrage. It is super rare with only a 2% chance of appearing meaning it’ll be a long grind to find one. In fights, it can use Rapid Spin and Foresight to clear hazards and is useful against Dark types.
But honestly, there are better choices for the same role as Hitmontop doesn’t have reliable recovery outside of Leftovers. It’s best to evolve to Hitmonchan or use something else. Odds are this is a roster filler.
6 Throh
Throh can be found in a few places when the weather is Overcast such as Bridge Field, Giant’s Mirror, Motostoke Outskirts, and Motostoke Riverbank. The best place is Giant’s Mirror as it has a 10% appearance rate where the others have 5%.
Throh isn’t very good in fights because of poor Speed and lack of Recovery. Leftovers help and if it can survive long enough to spam Bulk Up it gets better, but honestly catch it for the Pokédex and move on.
5 Sawk
Like Throh, Sawk is found in a few spots when the weather is Overcast. Namely, it can be found in Bridge Field, Giant’s Mirror, Motostoke Outskirts, and Motostoke Riverbank. Once again the best spot is Giant’s Mirror thanks to the 10% appearance rate versus 5% for everywhere else.
It’s a little better than Throh thanks to a higher Speed stat, but the low HP makes it a glass cannon. Its Sturdy ability helps it survive one hit KOs and get a few hits in. Generally speaking, the player is better off getting something else.
4 Scolipede
Scolipede is obtainable in the Wild Area thanks to the Isle of Armor DLC. It’s located in the Forest of Focus when the weather is Overcast. It has some niche usage in PVP thanks to incredible speed and moves like Sword Dance.
While it does have low HP it can quickly break walls and finish off opponents with moves like Megahorn and Earthquake. The Speed Boost ability can nudge speed even higher for every turn it survives. A great choice for PVE, but serious PVP contenders will want something a bit stronger.
3 Cottonee
Cottonee can be found in the Stony Wilderness zone of the Wild Area when it’s Overcast. It’s very common thanks to a 40% appearance rate. Because it has access to a wide and diverse movepool it can be an interesting fighter in PVP matches.
Granted it’s on the weak side and a four times weakness to Poison attack because of Grass/Fairy typing isn’t something to ignore. But it has the benefit of being unpredictable and able to use a variety of moves ranging from Giga Drain to Knock Off.
2 Rookidee
Rookidees make an appearance in the Wild Area during Overcast Weather showing up in the Motostoke Riverbank. They have a 10% appearance rate. Don’t bother using this Pokémon in PVP situations, its stats are awful and its movepool is limited.
Really the reason you want to capture this Pokémon is to evolve it into a Corviknight which gives a lot more options. Maybe not enough for hardcore PVP, but a strong candidate for PVE.
1 Falinks
Falinks is the last Pokémon to appear in the Wild Area exclusively during Overcast weather. It has a 6% chance of appearing in Lake Of Outrage.
Its stats are rough and while it has access to interesting Fighting moves it just simply isn’t worth it for PVP and probably not even PVE. Get it to round out the Pokédex or to be a quirky addition to a Bug run of the game.
