Another member of the archaeology themed pokémon, Baltoy is another creepy-cute Psychic type pokémon. With the unusual and useful combination of Ground type, it’s a worthy addition to your team. Here’s how to find and evolve Baltoy into Claydol in Pokémon Sword & Shield.

Finding Baltoy

Baltoy can be found in a myriad of places in the Wild Area, but your best bets are overworld encounters in: Dappled Drove during intense sun or sandstorms, East Lake Axewell during sandstorms, and Rolling Fields during sandstorms. You can also find this pokémon in Max Raids in Hammerlocke Hills, Motostoke Riverbank, and Stony Wilderness.

Evolving Baltoy into Claydol

Baltoy naturally evolves into Claydol at level 36.

Claydol Moveset

Claydol’s main strength is its high Special Defense stat, and has the same base Attack and Special Attack stat. However, it’s worth keeping in mind that all of its high level attacks (barring the self-destructing ones) are special instead of physical. Two of its most interesting moves, Guard Split and Power Split can be very useful in certain strategies, but you can forgo these and stick to centering its moveset around Extrasensory and Earth Power, its two most powerful and reliable attack moves.
