Cleffa is reasonably resilient as a Fairy-type, suffering deficiencies only against Steel and Poison-types. With a little training, this baby Pokémon grows into a mighty helpful teammate for any Sword & Shield team, but trainers will have to find it first.

An Elusive Fairy

The infantile Cleffa can only be captured through max raids. It makes a rare appearance as a common raid in Den #33, located within the Hammerlocke Hills and Rolling Fields regions of the Wild Area. Cleffa raids occur in this den at a rarity of 35%.

If trainers wish to skip the toddler phase, Clefairy is more readily attainable by traditional Pokémon hunting methods. Similar to Gothita’s exclusive appearances, Clefairy can only be found roaming amidst the fog in Giant’s Cap or along the Motostoke Riverbank. Clefairy is a fairly rare spawn even in foggy conditions, so trainers will need to keep their eyes peeled.

Evolving Cleffa

Cleffa will evolve into Clefairy with a base value of 220 happiness. The Pokémon then requires possession of a Moonstone in order to evolve into Clefable. Its final evolution doesn’t learn any new moves, so be sure to solidify a move-set before evolving Clefairy.

An Attractive Battle Strategy

Clefable has substantial HP and is best with utilizing special attacks. However, its innate ability Cute Charm grants a 30% chance of stunning an opponent with infatuation when Clefable hits it with a physical attack. Due to this unique ability combined with Clefable’s predilection for special attacks, a healthy mix of both move-types could prove a tactical approach. Meteor Mash is a strong physical attack that can also boost Clefable’s attack stat, further aiding this strategy.

Moonblast is Clefairy’s most substantial learned attack. Disarming Voice is reliably powerful as well, with a never-miss guarantee. If trainers wanted to, they could also teach Clefable the Fire Punch and Dig TMs to overcome the Pokémon’s Steel and Poison adversities.

With the launch of Pokémon Sword & Shield’s expansion pass just around the corner, trainers are eagerly rounding out their pokédex in preparation to continue their adventures through Galar. Trainers breeze through their Galar-dex completion with TheGamer’s Find ‘Em All compilation guide.
