Sometimes, when you’re a small fish in a big pond, you have to be a little aggressive to get through living. This is the case when it comes to the Pokémon Corphish, a water-type crustacean. Its ornery personality and adorable appearance making it one of the most charming species to come out of the Hoenn region. Don’t be fooled by its looks though, this little pincher is extremely hardy and can adapt to living in most environments. This includes the murky waters of the Galar region in Pokémon Sword and Shield. Just don’t disturb its home like Ash and his friends did in the anime, or you might have an angry crab after you!

Location And How To Evolve

Corphish can be found primarily wandering in the grass near South Lake Miloch. This is the most convenient way to find one, as its other homes, Galar Mine No. 2 and Giants Cap, require you to fish for it. The perk of Corphish’s tractile nature to live in any environment however, is that you can find it during almost all weather except for harsh sun and sandstorms. They do however tend to prefer overcast and rain, so you’ll want to check your map first if you plan to get one in the grass.

All you need to do in order to evolve this is crab is get him to level 30, where he’ll become his final form Crawdaunt. He’s just as violent and ill tempered as Corphish, if not more, which is perhaps why he became a dual Dark/Water-type upon evolution. It is said to be extremely territorial in the wild and difficult to train if caught. Despite the simple evolution, you might want to hold off until Corphish learns a special move. In fact, he gains his best moves past level thirty.

How To Use Crawdaunt

Originally the signature move of Krabby and Kingler, Crabhammer is a powerful damage dealing water-type move with 100 power. Now, it is a move exclusive to crustaceans such as Crabrawler and of course, Corphish. Corphish gains this attack at level forty four, while Crawdaunt doesn’t learn it until level fifty two. Razor Shell, a strong physical water move is also something this crab gets at level thirty two. In addition, Corphish learns Crunch at level forty, another powerful move which will be later amplified by Crawdaunts dark type abilities. Therefore if you want to get the full extent of this Pokémons power, it is definitely best to wait to evolve it. Do note that you’ll need something to balance Crawdaunts low HP stats or you’ll find he dies fast in battle. For this, you’ll want to teach it the TM Protect, which is available from the cashier at the Pokemon Center in Motostoke.
