Ferroseed is a Grass/Steel type Pokémon with the remarkable distinction of looking a little bit like a grey massage ball with eyes. Here’s how to add this funky little fellow to your roster in Sword and Shield.
Where to Find Ferroseed
Luckily, Ferroseed is available in both Sword and Shield and can be caught early on in Route 4. However, as there’s only a one-percent chance of finding a Ferroseed on Route 4, you might have better luck trying the Motostoke Riverbank during a sandstorm, which brings your chances up to 10 percent.
How to Evolve Ferroseed
Ferroseed evolves into Ferrothorn at level 40. No special items or conditions needed besides that—how lucky! Like its pre-evolution, Ferrothorn is a Grass and Steel-type Pokémon.
Recommended Moves
Ferroseed is a solid companion for much of early game, especially if you manage to catch one on Route 4, but its nastiest applications arise after it evolves into Ferrothorn. Evolving into Ferrothorn gives the Pokémon Iron Barbs, which damages any opponent that hits it with a physical attack.
This ability, combined with Ferrothorn’s incredible physical resilience, makes it an amazing tank-type addition to your team. Moves like Gyro Ball, which deals more damage the heavier the user is - and Ferrothorn is very heavy - Power Whip, Curse, and Knock Off can help you take advantage of Ferrothorn’s statistics and make every fight a battle of attrition.
