Larvitar is one of the most popular Pokémon of all time. It’s got a cool design when it evolves into Tyranitar, and is powerful. It also stands apart from other pseudo-Legendaries by not being a Dragon-type. If you want to add this Gen II powerhouse to your Sword & Shield team, read on.

Where To Find Larvitar In Sword & Shield

Larvitar is a suitably rare spawn, and it only appears in Pokémon Shield. Those looking for it will need to go to the Wild Area’s Lake of Outrage. You’ll need to wait for an overcast or intense sun, and search in the tall grass. Larvitar has a 5% chance of spawning, so keep at it.

How To Evolve Larvitar Into Tyranitar

Larvitar evolves into Pupitar at level 30, and then Pupitar evolves into Tyranitar at level 55. Sadly, Tyranitar’s Mega Evolution isn’t available in Sword & Shield, and there’s no Gigantamax form.

What Tyranitar Does In Battle

Tyranitar is still strong all these years later. It can use the Ability Sand Stream to cause an instant sandstorm. It also has a high physical Attack, so give it hard-hitting Rock and Dark-type moves like Stone Edge and Crunch. Fire Punch is a good fourth move, to deal with pesky Grass-types.
