Mareanie and its evolution Toxapex were introduced in Gen VII, and became some of the more notable Pokémon of that set. James of Team Rocket had a Mareanie in the Sun & Moon season. For fans of the games, however, Mareanie gained fame for its ruthless nature. Apparently they eat Corsola, and this taste became so prominent that they almost hunted the Alolan Corsola population into extinction. The Mareanie in Sword & Shield don’t have that habit, though, because the Corsola of Galar are mostly dead.

Where To Find Mareanine In Sword & Shield

Mareanine can be found walking around the overworld of Route 9. They seem to like it outside of Spikemuth in particular. In the Wild Area, you can fish them up at Giant’s Mirror and Motostoke Riverbank.

How To Evolve Mareanie Into Toxapex

You’ll be training Mareanie for a while, as it evolves into Toxapex at level 38.

What Toxapex Does In Battle

The original role of Poison-types in a battle team was to poison as many foes as possible and avoid taking damage long enough to let the venom do its work. Here in Sword & Shield, Toxapex is the apex of that battle style. It can use Toxic and lay down Toxic Spikes to poison foes. It can use Scald to potentially burn them instead. It also has insanely high defenses and its own attack Baneful Bunker, which acts like Protect but can also poison the foe. Finally, it has access to the Regenerator Ability, which heals it every time it switches out.
