Here’s how to get Porygon in the Pokémon Sword & Shield expansion, Isle of Armor.

It’s hard to get a bead on Porygon. It’s a Normal-type Pokémon, which is Pokémon’s catch-all for anything that doesn’t really fit anywhere else. It’d be better to label Porygon as a “digital” Pokémon, but now that Temtem has taken that typing, I doubt Game Freak will ever add it as a new type in future Pokémon generations.

We may never see a true Digital-type Porygon, but we at least know where to get one in the Isle of Armor.

Where To Find Porygon

First, anyone without the Isle of Armor expansion is out of luck. You’ll need to trade or transfer one using Pokémon HOME to get it.

If you do have Isle of Armor, beat the story and then go to the Dojo and speak to Master Mustard. A battle will ensue, and after that you can travel to the furthest room on the right to speak with Hyde. Porygon is just floating there, and after a brief conversation, Hyde will give it to you.

How To Evolve Porygon

Porygon can evolve into Porygon2 and Porygon-Z, both of which drastically enhance this Pokémon’s stats. But to evolve, Porygon has to be traded holding specific items.

To evolve into Porygon2, you’ll need to trade Porygon while it’s holding the Upgrade item, which can be found in an Item Ball in the Training Lowlands. After that, Porygon2 can evolve into Porygon-Z by trading while holding the Dubious Disc item. The Dubious Disc can be found in the middle of the Workout Sea on a tiny sandy island.

Since these evolutions require trading, you’ll need to find someone you can trust in order to wind up with a Porygon-Z.

What Porygon-Z Can Do In Battle

Porygon-Z has a lot of options. Its Download ability will either increase Porygon-Z’s Attack or Special Attack stat, depending on whether the opponent’s Defense or Special Defense is weaker than the other. Tri Attack is Porygon’s signature move, while Conversion-2 provides Porygon with additional defenses to whatever attack your opponent first used. Porygon-Z can learn a variety of different attacks, so pick the ones that will suit your team.
