The bug-water type Wimpod, in keeping with its name, looks like a quite wimpy Pokémon. Its evolution Golisopod, on the other hand, is any bug-fearing trainer’s worst nightmare. With both impressive attack and defense stats, this Bugzilla is capable of terrorizing the battlefield. Read on to find one in Sword & Shield.
Finding & Evolving Wimpod
Wimpods can be found lurking within the Galar Mine No. 2 throughout all weather conditions, but the little water bug’s more readily available in the Wild Area. It can be spotted roaming the overworld of the Hammerlocke Hills and Motostoke river during rain and thunderstorms. There’s a chance of a random rainy encounter with one throughout the Bridge Field region as well.
Rare 1-star max raid battles host Wimpod too. Find it in dens within the Bridge Field, Dappled Grove, Rolling Fields, and South Lake Miloch regions.
This soft-shelled Pokémon must toughen up to level 30 before it can evolve into Golisopod. Unfortunately, Wimpod is much like Magikarp in that its battle prowess doesn’t shine through before evolution. Minimal attack options coupled with pitiful battle stats, encourages trainers to evolve this weakling as soon as possible.
Move Recommendations
Upon evolution, Golisopod learns First Impression, which packs a punch but is only usable the Pokémon’s first turn in each battle. From there, stacking this Bugzilla’s move set with physical attacks such as Liquidation or Razor Shell will be most advantageous. Golisopod can cover some of its weaker points by learning the fighting-type move, Rock Smash.
