Both cactus Pokémon and musical Pokémon have been done before in the form of Cacnea and Ludicolo. But that didn’t stop Game Freak from revisiting the concepts with Maractus, a cactus that makes maraca-like shaking sounds. Nothing’s wrong with that, considering there’s an army of dog and cat Pokémon out there. So why not give Maractus a chance and add it to your Sword & Shield Pokédex?
Where To Find Maractus
Maractus is actually a bit of a rare spawn in Sword & Shield, in that it mostly comes out during one type of weather. It can be found on Route 6 all the time, but it has a fairly low spawn rate. In the Wild Area, Maractus can be found walking around during intense sun at Bridge Field, Hammerlocke Hills, and Stony Wilderness.
What Maractus Does In Battle
Maractus is a pure Grass-type Pokémon that can’t evolve, doesn’t have a Gigantamax or other special forms, and has mediocre defenses. That said, it has three things that can contribute to a battle team. The first is use of the move Spikes to set up a trap that can constantly damage opposing Pokémon.
Another thing Maractus brings to the table is Chlorophyll, which doubles its Speed when it’s sunny. With a boost to its Speed and Grass-type power, it gets a little more viable as a damage-dealer for a sun team.
The last cool thing Martactus can do is use the Ability Storm Drain. This makes it immune to Water-type attacks. It’s not much, but it can shut down certain opposing Pokémon.
