Hang in there, Legendary Pokémon fans. The Crown Tundra expansion for Pokémon Sword & Shield is coming, and it’s going add a whole gaggle of mighty critters to the mix.
It’s an exciting time to be a Pokémon fan, isn’t it? New Pokémon Snap has just been unveiled for Nintendo Switch, Pokémon GO is still just as engrossing for fans as it’s ever been, despite worldwide lockdowns… Oh, and the Isle of Armor expansion has just touched down.
Nintendo has been hyping the expansion pass for Sword & Shield for months now, and players finally have the first part of it in their hands. The Isle of Armor will bring a raft of familiar favorites such as Volcarona and Politoed to Galar, as well as Gigantamax forms for the starter Pokémon, the intriguing new Legendary Pokémon Kubfu (plus its two separate evolved forms and the associated tower challenge) and a good deal more.
Still, Nintendo are keen to keep the hype train rolling. The Isle of Armor is brand-new and offers an exciting range of new challenges for the those who have conquered Galar as it was, but it’s here now. It’s today’s news, which really means it’s last year’s news. Like, so five minutes ago, as they’d probably say on Mean Girls.
On the eve of the Isle of Armor’s release, Nintendo of America were keen to remind fans on Twitter that the pricey DLC package they’d just bought is also their ticket to hop into the Crown Tundra when the content launches later this year:
The Crown Tundra looks to be a very different animal to the first instalment of the DLC, focusing on expeditions around this frozen land. There will be Dynamax Dens open for exploration, intriguing new Legendaries including the Galarian forms of Articuno, Zapdos and Moltres, two brand-new Regi in Regidrago and Regieleki (Dragon- and Electric-type respectively, of course), and other surprises we haven’t seen yet. Needless to say, though, we’re sure to hear a lot more about it in the coming months. For right now, though, Pokémon fans have the Isle of Armor to dive into.
