When one imagines the various Pokémon types in real life, some of them definitely seem much scarier were they to exist than others. Electric-types may be some of the scariest, considering most of them have some sort of power that allows them to harness and utilize high-voltage electricity.

Throw in the fact that many Electric-type Pokémon have extremely intimidating designs and towering height, and you’re in for a world of hurt if you ever get on the wrong side of these zappy monsters. The best to avoid are probably the biggest in many cases, so here is a list of the tallest so you can be sure to avoid crossing their paths.

10 Toxtricity, Zapdos, Zebstrika

The first spot on this list goes to a three-way tie. Zebstrika, Toxtricity, and the classic Legendary Bird Zapdos all clock in at 5'03" (1.6 m). Sure, this is shorter than the average human, but can the average human summon thunderclouds and lightning to vanquish their enemies? These Pokémon can.

Zebstrika is said to be “ill-tempered” and capably of shooting lightning from its mane while running at speeds so high that thunder rumbles. Toxtricity is capable of generating 15,000-volt lightning from scratch, and Zapdos, perhaps most terrifying of all, is capable of controlling thunderclouds themselves and raining lightning on those below.

9 Alolan Golem

Head to the Alola region and you’ll probably come across a large, rocky Pokémon that stands much taller than the locals are probably comfortable with. Golem’s Alolan variation is a Rock/Electric-type that stands 5'07" (1.7 m). Add that height to a hefty weight of 696.7 lbs (316 kg) and this is one mighty beast, standing a foot (30 cm) taller than its Kantonian counterpart.

Known to be stubborn and grumpy, this electrically-charged rock can fire off stones imbued with electricity at high speeds. Wherever they land, the electricity rebounds in shock across the immediate area.

8 Dracozolt, Tapu Koko, Electivire, Mega Manectric

Coming in with another tie is a quarter of pretty cool and frightening Pokémon. Tapu Koko, the Legendary Guardian Deity of Melemele Island, Electivire, Dracozolt, and Mega Manectric all stand at 5'11" (1.8 m).

Some of these Pokémon are definitely more intimidating at that height than others — especially Tapu Koko, which has immense power and abilities that you wouldn’t want to get tangled with. Electivire is also capable of using its forked tail as a taser, pressing them against a foe, and then dispensing around 20,000 volts.

7 Raikou

Entei, Suicune, and Raikou — the Legendary Beasts of Johto — are all large, intimidating quadripedal dog- or cat-like beasts. These behemoths are all huge and scary, and Raikou, the Electric-type among them, is no exception.

Raikou stands around 6'03" (1.9 m) and is a natural force. Raikou is capable of shooting lightning bolts from its body and it sends shockwaves through the ground with its cry.

6 Eelektross

Eels are some of the scariest fish in the sea for divers, and the same seems to hold true for the Pokémon world, where divers can encounter the Electric-type Eelektross, a huge eel-like Pokémon that measures 6'11" (2.1 m).

These terrifying monsters are known for two things: the ability to shock their prey through the electric fangs, and their tendency to attack prey on shore and drag it into the ocean with their long, creepy arms. Throw in the fact that its typing and ability combo make it have no weaknesses, and this no ordinary fish.

5 Arctozolt

One of the sad, pathetic creations of fossil-restoration “expert” Cara Liss, Arctozolt is a mutant hybrid between an Electric-type bird and an icy creature Pokémon that both lived long ago.

This poor creation stands at an impressive 7'07" (2.3 m) and is said to have gone extinct because it moved so slowly. However, don’t let that fool you. It’s still capable of producing electricity with its body and harnessing it for powerful attacks.

4 Totem Vikavolt

In the Generation VII games, Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, the player is able to get their hands on some Totem-sized Pokémon that are much larger than their regular counterparts. One of them is Totem-sized Vikavolt — an enormous version of the Bug/Electric-type.

This Totem Pokémon stands at an insane 8'06" (2.6 m), meaning it measures taller than Shaquille O’Neal and Michael Jordan. Considering it can also fly, it might make an even better basketball player, too.

3 Zekrom

Returning to the world of Legendaries brings this list to Zekrom, one of the box art mascot Legendaries of Generation V. This jet-black Electric/Dragon Pokémon is impressively large, measuring 9'06" (2.9 m).

It’s said that this Pokémon can “scorch the world” with electricity and that people who lose righteousness in their hearts with have “their kingdoms razed” by its lightning. As one of the most powerful Electric-types, this guy is pretty intimidating.

2 Thundurus

Joining Zekrom in being a Generation V Electric-type Legendary of massive size is Thundurus, which stands 9'10" (3 m) in its Therian Form.

Known to terrorize the Unova region by flying around and shooting off lightning bolts, Thundurus is widely disliked. Charred remains are said to “mar the landscape” wherever it passes, as well as forest fires that are the result of its random shots of lightning.

1 Xurkitree

Now for the tallest Electric-type in existence currently — Xurkitree. This ugly, weird-looking Ultra Beast towers over the other Pokémon on this list at 12'06" (3.8 m). That means it’s around the same height as the tallest elephants on record.

With the highest special attack of all Electric-types, this guy packs a punch as well. It’s said that it can discharge up to a million volts from its body, which is enough to kill basically any living creature.
