Grass Pokémon are typically based on plants and other earth-type creatures, so it’s probably surprising how tall some of them can get, especially those that aren’t based on the tallest plants — trees. Some Grass-types are so tall they rival even more intimidating types like Fire, Dragon, or Rock-types, all of which are often very large.

It’s no surprise that some Legendary Pokémon are included on this list, as Legendaries are typically pretty big. It might surprise some to see how many starter Pokémon dominate this list, though. Without further ado, here are the tallest Grass-type Pokémon.

10 Meganium and Zarude

In the first spot, there’s a tie between a very old and a very new Pokémon. The final evolution of Gen-II Grass starter Chikorita is Meganium, which measures around 5'11" (1.8). Joining it at the exact same height is the brand-new Mythical Pokémon, Zarude.

Both of these Grass-types stand just above the average height for most adults. Sure, it’s not that intimidating, but when you consider they’re a dinosaur and an evil monkey, it gets a bit scarier.

9 Tapu Bulu, Mega Sceptile, Sawsbuck

Moving up a few inches to the respectable height of 6'03" (1.9 m) is the Legendary deity guardian of Ula’ula Island, Tapu Bulu, along with Generation V Grass/Normal-type Sawsbuck and Sceptile after it has undergone Mega Evolution.

Each of these Pokémon stand at the solid height that tower over most humans. Mega Sceptile looks like its tail is even longer than its height, so watch out for it when it uses it for deadly attacks.

8 Virizion, Tropius, Exeggutor, Tangrowth, and Venusaur

This entry is the largest tie on this list, this one being between Virizion, Tropius, Kantonian Exeggutor, Tangrowth, and Venusaur. All of these Grass-types, which are all very different from one another, measure 6'07" (2 m).

For most of them, this height is completely understandable, like Exeggutor or Virizion. But, it’s surprising to know that quadripedal and low-standing Venusaur is actually so gargantuanly large. Tangrowth is also a bit terrifying to think of being that huge.

7 Rillaboom

Joining the already-mentioned starters, Meganium, Mega Sceptile, and Venusaur, is Generation VIII’s gorilla-inspired Grass-starter, Rillaboom. This funky monkey stands at 6'11" (2.1 m). This is quite the departure from the tiny and cuddly Grookey that it originally evolves from.

At this height, Rillaboom is, it turns out, pretty skinny. It only weighs about 198.4 lbs (90 kg). This means it has a pretty low weight compared to its height. One would think a large, bulky gorilla might weigh more than that.

6 Abomasnow and Torterra

Only one more tie appears on this list, this time between two Generation IV Pokémon. The Grass-starter choice for trainers who begin their journey in the Sinnoh region, Torterra, and an intimidating Ice/Grass-type, Abomasnow.

Both of these Sinnoh Grass-types stand at 7'03" (2.2 m). With Abomasnow, it’s no surprise, since it’s often depicted as being huge and ferocious. Torterra, though, might be a bit surprising, since, like Venusaur, it is low-standing and quadripedal. It’s most likely the height of the tree on its back.

5 Mega Venusaur

Speaking of Venusaur, it’s here to make a second appearance on this list. After it undergoes Mega Evolution, which changes most Pokémon’s appearance and size, it grows significantly. Mega Venusaur stands more than a foot (30 cm) taller than its normal form at 7'10" (2.4 m).

The large rafflesia-like flower on Venusaur’s back grows significantly when Venusaur Mega Evolves, and this more than likely contributes most of the height gain for this Pokémon.

4 Mega Abomasnow

Just to bring it back again to someone we’ve already seen — Abomasnow is also much taller after it Mega Evolves, placing even higher than Mega Venusaur’s new height.

Mega Abomasnow is massive, clocking in at 8'10" (2.7 m). Considering this is an angry, stubborn, powerful snow-beast, it might be best to avoid running into one in the mountains of Sinnoh. It’s said that Abomasnow is capable of summoning blizzards and creating whiteout conditions.

3 Serperior

That’s right — another starter! This is, however, the last one to make it onto this list. Trainers starting their journey in the Unova region are able to choose Snivy as their starter Pokémon, should they want a Grass-type. Eventually, this Snivy can evolve into Serperior, a proud and regal snake-like Grass-type that has some serious heft.

It’s unclear if Serperior’s listed 10'10" (3.9 m) height is the length of its body from head to tail, or if that’s its visible standing height, but either way, that’s one big snake.

2 Dhelmise

There are a lot of creepy, spooky frights swimming around in the seas of the Pokémon world, from terrifying Jellicents to the murderous Gorebyss. However, few things will give the heebie-jeebies to sailors like a Dhelmise. This Ghost/Grass-type Pokémon isn’t just terrifying because of its sheer size — 12'10" or 3.9 m — it’s also known to have a penchant for wrecking ships and dragging their crews into the depths.

This horrifying 12-foot/four-meter Grass/Ghost-type is said to stretch its seaweed out for hundreds of yards, too. They’re known to take down Wailords with a single blow.

1 Alolan Exeggutor

It probably comes as no surprise to many people that Alolan Exeggutor is at the top of this list. This Grass/Dragon-type Alolan form is an astounding 35'09" (10.9 m). That means it’s taller than the average telephone pole or a three-story building.

Alolan Exeggutor isn’t just tall for a Grass-type. It’s the third-tallest Pokémon in existence, placing only behind Wailord and Eternatus. Its reveal during Generation VII was even comical, with many poking fun at just how ridiculously tall it is.
