Ever since the Fairy-typing was introduced to the Pokémon universe in Generation VI, there have been certain trends in appearance that many Fairy-types follow. Many are pink, elegant, mythical, cute, or all of the above.

However, there are also some outliers in the bunch who stand out for looking less like Fairies and more like monsters. While some of these oddball Fairies just might not be able to compete with the likes of the adorable Sylveon or Clefairy, others are just plain ugly. Believe it or not, there are at least ten Fairy-types who are in desperate need of a makeover.

10 Granbull

Prior to Generation VI, Granbull was a Normal-type, which suited its appearance as a simple yet intimidating bulldog. Therefore, the decision to move Granbull into the Fairy-typing was quite interesting, considering there’s nothing about it that stands out as fairy-like.

Rather than an adorable Fairy, Granbull looks like a vicious fighter dog with sharp fangs and a massive underbite. At least it has a surprisingly sweet and shy personality to make up for its scary appearance.

9 Mawile

From the front, Mawile might look cute and harmless, but do not be fooled by this little guy known as the “Deceiver Pokémon.” If it turns its back, it will show a much uglier and horrifying side to itself.

Sprouting from the back of its head, Mawile has a second pair of powerful jaws that can consume its prey by either swallowing it whole or shredding it apart. A feasting Mawile would certainly not be a pretty sight to see.

8 Shiinotic

Mushroom Pokémon like Parasect and Amoonguss tend to lean more on the unattractive end of the spectrum, and Shiinotic is no exception either. While Shiinotic has a pretty pastel color scheme, its giant mushroom cap, baggy bottom, and creepy smile are all rather off-putting.

In fact, its smiley face gives people a false sense of security. If it is able to lure and put its victim to sleep, Shiinotic will use its creepy little fingertips to suck their life away.

7 Florges

While its pre-evolutions, Flabébé and Floette, are adorable little flower Fairies, the same cannot be said about Florges. As the Garden Pokémon, Florges appears to have a whole garden of flowers wrapped around its neck.

It seems to be going for a more mature and elegant vibe as opposed to a cute one, but it doesn’t quite cut it. However, one redeemable feature about Florges’ appearance is the fact that its flowers can vary in color to better suit its trainer’s taste.

6 Tapu Bulu

Tapu Bulu is one of the Legendary Pokémon who act as the guardians of Alola. But compared to the rest of the island guardians, Tapu Bulu’s appearance is a little obscure.

Tapu Bulu resembles a bull with two horns, a nose ring, hooves, and an awkward body shape. In contrast to its bulky upper body, its lower half is oddly tiny with a bell attached to its tail.

5 Aromatisse

Armoatisse may be pink and fluffy, but it is far from adorable, Its big red eyes almost give it a menacing look, despite being a fairly docile Pokémon.

The lack of appeal in its appearance may be due to the fact that Aromatisse cares more about its scent than its sight. Its prominent nose is perhaps a nod to its ability to create different scents to either please its trainer or disgust its enemy.

4 Mr. Mime

Mr. Mime has been around since the first generation, but it wasn’t until Generation VI when Fairy was added to its initial Psychic-type. Therefore, Mr. Mime’s original appearance might not have been intended to look cute or elegant like a typical Fairy-type.

Instead, Mr. Mime looks more like a doll with still joints due to the way it mimes and mimics others. In addition, its overall clown vibe might not sit well with anyone who is easily frightened by clowns or mimes.

3 Grimmsnarl

Grimmsnarl has a unique Dark/Fairy-typing, though its appearance certainly leans more toward the Dark side than the Fairy side. It is a very hairy Pokémon who resembles a troll, and uses its long body hair to help increase its muscle strength.

To make things even hairier, Grimmsnarl’s Gigantamax form is practically a 105-foot walking mass of hair. According to its Pokédex entry, its leg hair makes its kicks powerful enough to bust through the terrain.

2 Magearna

As alluded to by its robotic body and half Steel-typing, Magearna is an artificial Pokémon who was born at the hands of science and humans.

Initially created for a Princess, Magearna was designed to look like a robot doll with bunny ears and two spheres that resemble Poké Balls. The smaller sphere is the “Soul-Heart,” where Magearna’s entire life-force lies.

1 Galarian Weezing

The original Kantonian Weezing was never an attractive Pokémon to begin with, but its Galarian form might be even worse. After taking in too much of Galar’s pollution, Weezing became not only more toxic but also a Fairy-type.

Galarian Weezing’s most notable features are its very tall hats and green clouds. While the hats act as outlets for purified air, the green clouds serve as great facial hair for both faces of the Weezing.
