Pokémon X and Y’s Frost Cavern is one of the most tricky caves/dungeons because of its many hidden elements. There are new and different ways to obtain rare items that aren’t apparent from playing the game, making them joy-inducing secrets to find.

While there are a few Mega evolutions stones to get that you may have missed from post-game, there are very few rare Pokémon that are still important for completing the Pokédex.  So here are the top ten things you missed from the Frost Cavern in Pokémon X and Y.

10 The Healer

On the upper part of the 1st floor, you will find an ace trainer who heals your Pokémon. This is such a useful resource when rare Pokémon hunting because you can be going through 100 wild Pokémon before finding that one with a 5% or less chance of finding, and then only to accidentally kill it and have to go through the grueling process all over again leaving many more much more common Poke-corpses in your wake. Either way, your Pokémon are sure to get tired and battle-worn, so make sure to use this free resource for healing all she’s worth by forcing her to instead to shell out all the money to heal your Pokémon.

9 Ice Rock (Glacion)

The Ice rock is all-important if you want to get a Glacion out of your Eevee and this cave has you move around a bit to find it. The exact location is on the 1st floor in an area only accessible via the northwest stairs on the second floor. As soon as you level up your Eevee near it, it should evolve into Glacion.

8 Snowball

The Snowball is a very interesting item in both concept and original in practice. The description of the Snowball is that the Pokémon eats it to raise its attack up a stage if it gets hit by an ice type move, which is odd because you’d think it would only make the Pokémon colder and the ice type move more damaging. This rare item can be found by a new element in battle where you have the option to hit a snow pile right outside the cave, using rock slide on it would trigger you to have the item.

7 Never-Melt Ice

The never-melt ice is a pretty important item for ice-type Pokémon because of the major boost in Ice-types power, a whopping 20% increase. So you may find it important to try and locate one for yourself in the Frost Cavern to boost some of your favorite ice-type Pokémon. This can be done in a similar way to the snowball but instead you’ll be looking for an iceberg during battle, as those are the only battle terrain objects that give Never-melt ice.

6 Coba Berry

The Coba berry has the interesting effect of taking away the super effective of one flying move. Its highly specific use can be useful, but this berry can only be commonly be found in the Frost Cavern.

This item can be found by hitting a 3rd battle terrain object, a berry tree. There are many other berries you can get but to get them you have to use either twister, hyper voice, or air cutter.

5 Frost Breath

This one can be easy to miss because it requires you to use the slide mechanics in the cave. To get this TM you will have to go to the southeast part of the 3rd floor and slide diagonally to reach a stairway. This stairway leads to this useful TM.

4 Scizorite

This can only be accessed post-game at a very specific time. You will need the upgraded mega ring in order to use it for your poor un-mega evolved Scizor.

In order to get it you need to go to the spot where the Abomasnow is that you rescued from Team Flare between 8 PM and 8:59 PM. This tricky old yeti was hiding precious valuable from you.

3 Cryogonal

This Pokémon has a 5% chance of showing up so there’s a good chance you missed it in your first pass through. It will show up at level 40, so keep your Pokémon leveled with that in mind so you don’t end up 1 hit killing it.

2 Smoochum

This Pokémon shows up in a horde encounter with a very rare 5% encounter rate. This can be good for encounters in the Pokédex and also important for getting Jynx. This encounter can be had anywhere on the cave, and most likely you’ll find 3 Vanillite in a horde. As with any horde encounter, you can only throw a Pokéball if there is one Pokémon on the field.

1 Diamond Dust Weather

Possibly one of the best secrets in Pokémon X and Y is that based on your date of birth the Frost Cavern has a special surprise for you. Only on your birthday, a new weather pattern will happen just on the Frost Cavern called Diamond Dust, a glittery type of snow weather that acts as a big thank you for purchasing the game.
