The Crown Tundra DLC for Pokemon Sword and Shield came out on October 22. The DLC unlocked a new area, battles, characters, and a bunch of additional Pokémon.

Fans were happy to catch many legendaries, move more of their Pokemon from old titles to Sword and Shield, and partake in double battles with their favorite rivals and gym leaders.

With any new content to a popular title, there are plenty of jokes from the fandom. Many of these memes revolve around the new characters and new legendary, Calyrex. Warning, spoilers for Crown Tundra ahead!

10 Calyrex Through Peony

A fact of life is that most Pokemon, even legendary ones, cannot speak human language. The new legendary, Calyrex, found a way through that using its abilities.

Calyrex possesses poor Peony, one of the new and beloved characters, and speaks through him. While a little creepy, it is actually pretty funny as Peony floats over the air like a ghost just like the shadow-person in this meme.

9 Zubat

A main complaint from veteran fans for Pokemon Sword and Shield was that it did not include the National Pokedex. The DLC fixed this a little bit by adding even more Pokemon to the game. So many players got to have sweet reunions with their old pals!

In Crown Tundra, the added Pokemon included Zubat, Elekid, Jynx, Aron, Nidoran, Swablu, Absol, Beldum, and many others.

8 Generous Trade

Trading Pokemon can be annoying with strangers. If a player enters a trade with someone, it is very often for them to seek out just shiny and mythical Pokemon instead of anything more regular.

It is a very kind and generous idea to trade the new Pokemon to those who do not have the DLC. However, it’ll be more likely that the kind trader will connect to someone who wants something far more than a regular Pokemon.

7 After Crown Tundra

After the release of Crown Tundra, fans found out pretty quick that it broke the game a little. Not in an unplayable way, but in a way that got rid of a lot of challenge. This is especially true if the player utilizes new legendaries to their team.

Even without a legendary team, veteran players will reunite with more of their old and over-powered team of Pokemon from previous games.

6 The Cooler One

Players may have noticed the moment they met Peony that he has a likeness to Chairman Rose. He even uses some of the same Pokemon as him. That was done on purpose, as Peony and Chairman Rose turn out to be brothers.

Unlike Chairman Rose though, Peony won the hearts of many more players. Calling him “cooler” is very much true as he is a dedicated father and a funny guy to have around. That is much cooler than his brother, he serves as a villain in the base game.

5 Only Pokemon Now

Any gamer knows the constant struggle of work versus play in the light of the recent release of a video game they love. This meme illustrates that entire narrative.

What makes this meme work so well is that the man and Pokemon protagonist are positioned exactly the same way while reading something. The Pokemon picture is a scene from the Crown Tundra when the player meets the new versions of the legendary birds.

4 Peony Fans

As mentioned before, Peony has been crowned one of the best parts of the Crown Tundra DLC. His daughter sort of just gives him to the player because he wants to go on adventures while she wants to be left to do her own thing.

So basically, he is like an adopted dad for the rest of the DLC and players loved every moment of it.

3 The Legendary Pokemon

Peony sends the player after legendary Pokemon. A notable trio is the new form of the legendary birds from Kanto: Zapdos, Moltres, and Articuno. While they have the same names, their types and design are different.

When the player shows these new forms to Peony, he basically just shrugs since he has never actually seen the Kanto versions either. However, he does hint that there is something that looks off about them.

2 Big Head

Both in the game itself and outside the game, Calyrex’s giant head is made fun of. Its design mixes the idea with a crown, with bounty, and a bulb since he is known as the King of Harvests.

He is not the only deer Pokemon. Not even the first deer legendary, as the comparison with Xerneas is shown in this meme. Xerneas is certainly the more elegant design of the two.

1 Same Energy

Once again, the meme community is all about Calyrex’s giant head. Within the game itself, Peony mocks the deer’s head multiple times before it possesses him.

Imagine, you meet a deer god and you make fun of its design. Peony of course didn’t know this was a legendary (as it appears he doesn’t know a lot about legendary Pokemon).
