The Pokedex is a great source for information on the many different Pokemon species out there, though you’ll need to capture them in order to get that info. The Pokedex has long been infamous for its penchant for bizarre, scary, or downright bone-chilling entries that forever change the way we see certain Pokemon. This is often the case for Ghost-type Pokemon with creepy backstories, but it can extend to every type. After all, they are still monsters.
But scary isn’t all there is. In fact, there are quite a few Pokedex entries that are downright adorable and will make you wish they were real. We’ve found the cutest of the cute for you to squee and tear up at, so keep reading for your daily dose of wholesome.
10 Igglybuff
Starting off the list is the endearing baby form of a classic Pokemon that almost every fan knows and loves. Igglybuff is the baby form of Jigglypuff, a well-known singer that has a beautiful voice… so beautiful it puts everyone to sleep.
While Jigglypuff becomes incredibly upset at this fact, Igglybuff is still learning how to sing and developing its technique, meaning you won’t get knocked unconscious just yet. Pokemon Sun’s Pokedex entry describes Igglybuff’s efforts in detail: “It likes to sing but is not yet good at it. With praise and encouragement, it will get better little by little.” When you put it like that, how can we not encourage it?
9 Pidove
Pidove is the regional Flying-type bird of the Unova region, so it’s quite a common Pokemon to be found in cities and parks. It’s not the sharpest beak in the flock, but it’s quite accustomed to people and friendly as a result.
In real life, domestic pigeons actually make wonderful pets, particularly for those inexperienced with birds. They have friendly and curious personalities, and this is clearly reflected in Pidove’s Pokedex entry in Shield: “It’s forgetful and not very bright, but many Trainers love it anyway for its friendliness and sincerity.” Isn’t that all that truly matters in a friendship?
8 Blissey
Blissey often gets overlooked by its pre-evolution Chansey, both on the battlefield and off of it. It’s a shame because it’s such a sweet and kind-hearted creature that only wants to bring love to others (not to mention it’s incredibly gifted when it comes to HP.)
Take its Ruby and Sapphire Dex entry: “Blissey senses sadness with its fluffy coat of fur. If it does so, this Pokémon will rush over to a sad person, no matter how far away, to share a Lucky Egg that brings a smile to any face.” It finds joy in comforting people, and its eggs are also naturally comforting. So why don’t you have a Blissey egg and maybe you’ll calm down.
7 Alolan Rattata
This may seem like an odd choice for a “cute” Pokedex entry, considering Alolan Rattata looks even more disease-ridden than its non-Alolan counterpart, but don’t click away just yet.
Alolan Rattata has a unique sense of smell that Pokemon Ultra Sun’s Dex notes quite adorably: “It shows no interest in anything that isn’t fresh. If you take it shopping with you, it will help you pick out ingredients.” Now, going grocery shopping with someone you like is often fun and domestic, but having a special companion who can find the freshest of foods to eat? Undeniably cute.
6 Leavanny
This is a less obvious pick, but the entire Leavanny family line is quite adorable. Sawaddle wears clothes made by its Leavanny parent — and itself as it grows old enough, and fashion designers apparently love its style. Swadloon wraps itself in its big leaf blanket to stay safe from the cold, resembling a typical media portrayal of a person struggling with hikikomori (acute social anxiety disorder as known in Japan.)
Leavanny takes the cake for cuteness though, largely for its Pokemon Black Dex entry: “Upon finding a small Pokémon, it weaves clothing for it from leaves by using the sticky silk secreted from its mouth.” Generous and nurturing, a perfect combo.
5 Torchic
Torchic is cute all on its own. Even if it had a boring or creepy Pokedex entry, its looks would still make it irresistible amongst fans. Fortunately, it has the most heart-warming entry you’ll read in Pokemon Sapphire: “Torchic has a place inside its body where it keeps its flame. Give it a hug - it will be glowing with warmth. This Pokemon is covered all over by a fluffy coat of down.”
Just imagining hugging this Pokemon is guaranteed to create a warm feeling within you. It would really be the perfect companion to have, especially in cold climates and seasons.
4 Swablu
This Pokemon is literally a cloud: how could anything describing it not be overly-sweet and adorable? Swablu is often discussed in the Pokedex in terms of how it cleans its ultra-soft wings in a bath of water if they become dirty.
While this would be cute enough to land a spot on this list, its other habit described by Pokemon X’s Dex is tooth-rotting levels of fluff: “For some reason, it likes to land on people’s heads softly and act like it’s a hat.” Imagine going about your day when suddenly a cotton bird lands on your head. How utterly delightful.
3 Eldegoss
Eldegoss is a Galarian Pokemon that is reminiscent of Johto’s Hoppip line, especially since both are baby-sized and related to cotton. Eldegoss sheds its cotton fluff not just as a biological function, but to help others: “The seeds attached to its cotton fluff are full of nutrients. It spreads them on the wind so that plants and other Pokémon can benefit from them.”
If Pokemon Sword’s Dex entry is true of every Eldegoss, then they are a kindhearted and lovable species that deserves to be fawned over, excessively.
2 Drampa
Drampa might have many of you scratching your heads, and to be fair, it’s not traditionally the cutest of the pack, but its personality and actions are what make it stand out. Ultra Moon’s Pokedex entry tells of its tenderness for children: “It appears in towns and plays with the children. Drampa will protect kids when they’re in danger, so their moms don’t have to worry.”
It’s almost tear-jerking in how kind a Pokemon can be to children it might not even know. To protect the vulnerable is a noble and lovable trait that we have to give Drampa credit for.
1 Klefki
Klefki is certainly stranger than your average pink-and-fluffy Fairy-type Pokemon, but its uniqueness is part of what makes it so lovable. Dex entries describe it living in mines before resources were depleted by humans, making it gravitate to settlements. Where it got its love of keys is not entirely clear, but it is endearing.
The way it threatens attackers by “fiercely jingling their keys at them” is hilariously cute and barely threatening at all. Pokemon Sword’s Dex details its admirable dedication: “Entrust a Klefki with important keys, and the Pokémon will protect them no matter what.”
