Milo is the first gym leader that players will get the chance to battle in Sword and Shield, and he trains Pokémon that are specifically of the Grass-typing. Although Milo is generally easy to defeat, he is a very interesting person with a ton of backstory and facts that make him a well-developed character.

The following facts are things about Milo that most players never got the chance to learn within the generation 8 games and will show players that he is one of the best characters to encounter in the Galar region.

10 Milo Is Gentle And Feels Bad Defeating Gym Challengers

Milo is a gentle soul and generally doesn’t like to defeat his opponents even if he is stronger than them because he will feel guilty afterward.

This trait isn’t especially noticeable within the game because players see Milo as a character that is difficult to beat as a gym leader. This kindness is probably the reason that Milo is the first gym leader in Sword and Shield because he will generally go easier on new trainers.

9 Milo Is Incredible Physically Powerful

It may not be immediately noticeable; however, Milo is physically capable of lifting a lot of weight. It is said that he is able to push hay bales that way over 700 pounds with ease.

Milo is almost as powerful as a Machamp, and this is not much of a surprise, considering that he has a background in physical labor. Regardless many fans may not realize just how strong Milo truly is, and he is definitely the most physically powerful gym leader and Sword and Shield.

8 Milo Is The Only Gym Leader In Sword & Shield To Not Use A Gigantamax Pokémon Prior To The End Game

Milo will Dynamax one of his Pokémon in the first gym battle that the player has with him; however, he doesn’t have a Gigantamax Pokémon until the post-game, and this may be because he is the first gym leader that players face off against. This does not include Piers since he does not Dynamax any of his Pokémon in the initial Gym battle.

Milo seems to prefer powerful Grass-type Pokémon; however, it seems clear that he may not have many Gigantamax creatures that are on the weaker side to battle new trainers with. This is an interesting bit of knowledge that makes Milo unique and separates him from the other gym leaders in Sword and Shield.

7 Nessa Considers Milo A Rival

Nessa considers Milo to be her rival, and based on the knowledge that players can learn about Milo in-game, he does not reciprocate this feeling towards Nessa.

Milo considers himself to be his own rival, and it is likely that Nessa only considers Milo to be her rival because he is a Grass-type trainer and is powerful against her Water-types. It’s unfortunate that Milo does not reciprocate the feeling towards Nessa because they would be great official rivals in the franchise.

6 Milo Is A Talented Farmer

Milo is an extremely talented farmer, and although players may know that he has a background in farming, what they may not realize is that he is extremely passionate about this profession, and his parents were farmers as well.

Milo is constantly seen running after Wooloo within Turffield in the Pokémon world, and he absolutely loves raising Pokémon because it gives him a purpose in life.

5 Milo Prefers Having Fun To Winning

It is revealed through one of Milo’s league cards that he doesn’t care if he loses a Pokémon battle and prefers to battle simply for the enjoyment of it.

This is similar to a lot of trainers in the Pokémon franchise; however, it is unique for Milo because he is a gym leader, and most of them absolutely hate losing. Milo seems to be a good sport, and most trainers probably consider him to be one of the nicest gym leaders that they have ever met.

4 Milo Has Lived In Turffield For His Entire Life

Milo has lived in Turffield for his entire existence, and this is because his parents were also farmers that raised him there. When Milo grew up, he decided not to leave his hometown and instead became the gym leader of this fine settlement.

Milo prefers the grassy plains to any other type of terrain, and he is also passionate about both farming and Pokémon battling. Most fans probably didn’t realize that Milo has been in this town for his entire life as a lot of Gym Leaders come from other parts of the Pokémon world to competitively battle.

3 Milo Catches All Of His Pokémon In Ultra Balls

Some trainers have a specific type of Pokéball that they prefer to catch their Pokémon partners in, and Milo’s choice is an Ultra Ball. All of his Pokémon are seen in Ultra balls within Sword and Shield. Strangely, normal Pokéballs are displayed on his hip.

The likely reason behind this Ultra Ball choice is because Milo does not want to damage wild Pokémon any more than he has to since he is a gentle person that enjoys being kind towards people and Pokémon. As such, Milo prefers to catch his Pokémon quickly and gain their affection without hurting them during a battle.

2 The Uniform Number That Milo Wears Is “831” And It Means Vegetables

Every trainer in Sword and Shield has a specific number on the back of their outfit, and Milo happens to have one of these completely unique numbers as well.

Milo has a funny number because it translates to the word vegetables, which makes sense, considering that he is a farmer and grows crops. Milo has one of the best numbers in Sword and Shield because of the fitting meaning behind it.

1 Milo’s Nickname Is “The Fighting Farmer”

Most gym leaders have a nickname that defines them, and Milo’s is “The Fighting Farmer.” Similar to his gym challenge number, this nickname fits Milo perfectly, considering that he is both a professional Pokémon trainer and a renowned farmer.

Fans can see Milo throughout Sword and Shield as talented in both of these professions, and as such, he deserves this nickname without a doubt.
